@4, Scotts 1-3 and the Scott tracks on the last Walker Brothers album, Nite Flights are all excellent as well. Even some of his schlock is pretty great. David Bowie, one of Scott's great admirers, restarted his moribund career with a cover of Scott's incredible (and grisly) "Nite Flights" in 1993. Can't get any sexier than "The dark dug up by dogs / the stitches torn and broke / the raw meat fist you choke / has hit the bloodlight".

Did you ever see the doc on Scott Walker that has a percussionist punching a slab of fresh meat? I laughed pretty hard when I saw it. Indeed, as I recall Bowie thinks him a great American composer.
@6 there is a remarkable essay in the excellent "Pushing Ahead of the Dame" if anyone is interested in Walker and Bowie's intersecting/overlapping careers.
@7, yes, I did. "30th Century Man". Great stuff. Personally I'm more about the early pop Walker Brothers, but the later stuff is in a league of its own.
@8, I love you, sweetheart. I wrote my comment hoping to inspire you to post that very article.
Here, compare --

I'm going with Scott on this one, though it's close.
