All good suggestions, with the glaring exception of that last one. It's the employees (not their bosses) who will have to rearrange those stamp displays. They're already on the right side, so please people, don't make their work situation even shittier than it currently is.
If the government is stupidly and impractically forcing your boss to buy things for you, then it literally is your boss's business.
If the government wants to make sure that poor and middle-class women have easy access to birth control (and health care in general) (as it should), the very worst way is to tie that access to employment.
This was a predictable and completely avoidable bit of political theater, which is what both parties and the media thrive on.
The reality however, is that Sen. Murray's very noble bill is DoA when it arrives in the House - so it's all posturing. Nothing can/will change until after the midterm elections, and only then IF progressive thinking persons are elected as a majority. The current GOP will not play.
@6, Murray's bill is DOA in the House, but others we thought would be DOA in the past have actually been pushed through, and there's no point in NOT putting noble bills into the hopper now. At least the public (the public that still reads) will know it's been attempted.
I'm glad I'm no longer seeing complaints that Murray is not very bright. That was pretty tiresome, especially when we could easily have a Pam Roach type in her stead, who would be incredibly stupid, venal, and mean. Our Congressional senatorial duo is one of the few bright spots in all the layers of politicians elected in/from this state.
@3 got it. If you want me to foot the bill for something it's absolutely my business. Want to buy your own contraception, you know like adults do, then it isn't.
And Patty Murray is, always has been and always will be a Senator for Seattle. Everybody else in the state gets no representation from that umm woman at all. Can't vote well is nearly as bad, so basically unless you're a Cap Hill bicycle riding vegetarian forgot having any voice n the Senate representing your I
interests.
@10 Seattleblah - I almost feel sorry for you but I know you do it all to yourself. Don't worry, the rest of us will take care of you when you fuck it up so bad you can't handle things anymore.
2. Remove the Free Exercise Clause from the Establishment Clause in the First Amendment!
Religion should not receive preferential treatment from our government. Our laws are for everyone. If religious people want to impose an additional set of laws upon themselves fine but their religious laws should never be imposed on people of minority religions or the "nones". It is necessary to separate religion from government. History and our constitution warn us of this.
Any good that religion produces is not worth all the bad that comes with it, that good simply does not require religion. All of this good attributed to religion can be accomplished without it.
I started a petition to demand the resignation of the justices who do have added discrimination into the constitution. Tell the government we won’t stand as a society to compromise one group of peoples rights for anthers. Religious freedom does not trump women’s rights.
Everyone please share with others, if we get 100,000 signatures the government has to acknowledge that the justices have gone down a bad path / by protecting one class of people they are hurting 51% of the populations freedoms. SIGN HERE TODAY! http://wh.gov/lLte8
It's not like anyone is suggestion painting a picture of Gerri Santoro in menstrual blood on Hobby Lobby's display window.
