They filibustered it. While I'm a supporter of the bill and applaud Patty Murray, it didn't stand a chance either in the Senate or the House. Young women are the GOP's cultural punching bag this time around.
3
Senator Murray's done a fine job of teeing this up for the fall campaign ad cycle. Well done. Make them go on record and not hide behind 5 guys in black robes.
4
@1 "They filibustered it."

Exactly!

That ought to be pointed out each time we discuss this sort of shit in our broken legislature, because "[t]he vote was 56-43 to move ahead on the measure, short of the 60 votes necessary to proceed" over yet another fucking Republican filibuster.

That's not how it works! That's not how any of this works!

This was not expected?
6
... Proving this was never about religious freedom, despite the continuing lies from the sacks of shit known as Republicans.
7
@6 - Au Contraire - this in no way changes this being about religious freedom - as the GOP sees that. In their religion, they must be free to discriminate and impose their values on others, even if it violates the rights of the others. They've set up competing, mutually exclusive 'rights' and insist that theirs, "religious", take precedence over reproductive rights. Just like their religion once demanded (with biblical support) the right to own slaves.

Woman: "it's none of my bosses business what I do in my bedroom"
Boss: "Fine I'll leave"
Woman: "Wait, leave your wallet..."

@5, actually, I'm surprised.

I knew it would get nowhere in the Republican-controled house—Boehner would never let even come up for a vote. But I thought it would pass in the senate.
11
@9 you're a fucking moron or a shitty troll, take your pick.
12
@11 - Why can't we have both? He's a fucking moron and a shitty troll.
13
It was a foregone conclusion but at least it put some Senate members on the record.
14
I'm imagining Mitch McConnell popping a large inflatable condom with a pin.

Republicans just don't give a shit about women.

Yet somehow the far extreme right keeps winning congressional elections.

The GOP's flirtations with misogyny may perpetually deny them the Whitehouse, it doesn't seem to matter otherwise. Where it matters. Why is that?

This is due to successful gerrymandering and because "women" are just as likely to be fucking stupid as men when it comes to voting against their own self interests.

Which to me says that the relevant left-leaning feminist interest groups have been either totally incompetent at convincing women voters where their interest really lay, can't get lefities to fund them enough to be effective, or both.

These organizations have had forty years practice to do this and have somehow gotten out maneuvered by mouth breathing morons like the Koch brothers.

I find this perpetually depressing.
16
@9: Aw, you don't know how insurance works. How cute.
17
@15 It's called gerrymandering. 1.4 million more people voted for Democratic congress people in 2012.
18
Another nail in the coffin for the stupid fucking republicans in 2016, how stupid can one party be?
19
@17 perhaps your reading comprehension is poor but I said in the 4th sentence "This is due to successful gerrymandering and..."

But that is NOT the whole story. There is no way that gerrymandering by itself totally masks 51% of the electorate - WOMEN.

In the 2010 midterm more women voted Republican than Democrat. Not much more. But more.

And, while women did go mostly for Obama, that moron Romney still got a staggering 35-38% or so of the women vote in 2012 Presidential election. That should not be happening.

And it is not an effect of gerrymandering. It's an utter failure of left on educating the electorate.

Patty Murray is an abject Moron. From contraception, to the bridge, she has no clue as usual. She actually makes Nazi Pelozi look intelligent. And that is impossible. Is this the best we can do. Have you seen her speech about global warming, where she is afraid the oceans will 'run dry', until a cohort reminds her that she's supposed to say "overflowing"?
Unbelievable anybody could support a Pelozi puppet who is as dumb as this.

Please wait...
