The "10 percent of your brain" thing is not only not true, it's the stupidest goddamn thing in the fucking world. Which makes even the ads for this bloody diarrhea of a movie impossible to sit through.

It's stupid not because it's fully stupid, but because it makes claims to intelligence but in a way that is fully committed to the power of the stupid. It's like Nabokov's concept of "poshlust" -- "not the obviously trashy but the falsely important, the falsely beautiful, the falsely clever". Everyone involved in the making of this movie -- production, not actors -- should be killed.

Who goes to a Scarlett Johansson movie because they want to see more of her brain?
4
is there nekkid ?
5
Why is everyone so hung up on this 10% brain thing but are able to suspend belief for every other movie in existence?
6
Congratulations Fnarf, you're just like everyone on Reddit.

You know what else is stupendously stupid? Radioactive spider bites giving people spider powers, a yellow sun making someone from a red sun area into a god, nobody fucking noticing Batman sounds just like Bruce Wayne with a cold, etc...

Super Autism Lady to the rescue!

Really looking forward to this--and I don't think I've ever said that about a Luc Besson movie.
9
At least Dr Manhattan had the good sense to be naked.

@6, exactly. Those movies are stupid, too, and make their viewers stupid. But they're not pretending to be smart, thus not poshlost.

So the campy fun of The Fifth Element is there?! The Verge did a review and they were not as kind. They implied it was a let down.

I can tolerate a few cliche'd premises or plot holes, so long as it's a fun ride of a movie.

I don't know why, but Luc Besson has a certain style that appeals to me. I've even liked a few of his bombs. And I think Scarlett Johansson is hot, even though I'm a perfect Kinsey 6. So I will probably firmly suspend my disbelief over that silly 10% nonsense, and go see this movie anyway.

@10- You need to lighten up. I say this as a person who gets compared to Eeyore with some regularity.

How is it possible that so many people read the script, created a tagline about 10% of the brain being used, etc... and nobody demanded a rewrite of that widely-known fallacy ? Was everyone in Hollywood just hoping to make another badass-beast mode-chick movie with Angelina (and later Scar Jo) that they didn't care ? Still not sure why this is different from Salt/Limitless mish-mash with a hotter actress.
15
@14- Maybe using it as a tagline was bad, but once again: Why is this particular bit of bad science worse than all the other bad science in superhero/scifi movies?

I can't imagine why everyone is asserting that this movie is "trying to be smart". Is it because it uses the word "brain" in the promotional materials? But it does so with what is clearly known to all internet commenters as a fallacy; so it's showing its cards up front.

It's ridiculous, creative, much less ponderous and grimly Nolanized than almost every other super movie (maybe not Guardians of the Galaxy), and gets runs through a fun ride in under ninety minutes. That last point alone is enough to win my affection.

Beautiful woman with sultry voice becomes Neo in the waking world, directed by the guy who brought us Taken and the Transporter films? I think that's enough for me to give it a shot, but thanks for warning me to switch of my brain first.

And Paul, you totally shoulda kept the original title of the post, that was hilarious.

Please wait...
