Subway makes the best sandwiches within a half mile of where I live (in Seattle).
2
Subway makes the only subs within a 1.5 mile radius of where I live in NE Seattle. And the crap Safeway sells isn't edible.

Needless to say: I never eat subs.
3
Oh and why do people order from places like Jimmy Johns? It's cheaper than the local places and they deliver if you can't leave work without having to come up with a min. order.
4
Hey, a $3 cheaper sandwich at Subway is 3 bucks in my pocket. Who cares about anybody else?
5
All fast food places are terrible. Read Fast Food Nation, it'll pretty much confirm your worst suspicions.
6
Unfortunately, those delicious deli sandwiches are twice as much, and not all of us can afford that every day.
7
Because subway is decent and fast.

Paul, although I work in beautiful, walkable Ballard, I only get a 30 min lunch break which leaves me with going to either Subway, Safeway, McDonald's or Five Guys and still having time to eat my slop. I have it good, too.
9
@8 You could always bring your lunch to work...
10
And because not everyone lives in Seattle. Around the corner from my local Subway is a...you guessed it! Jimmy John's! Whee!
11
Pioneer Square may be the best neighborhood for sandwiches and yet every lunch hour, without fail, Subway and Jimmy Johns both have lines extending out the door. I just don't understand it.
12
I like Subway sandwiches.
13
@11, I suspect you get more sandwich for the buck from them compared to tastier yet more expensive competitors.
14
Cause Jared lost all that weight.
15
@9 thanks so much for your help.

I do.

Jimmy John shoots elephants, the most polite thing I could say about that evil mediocrity producing moron is that I would be happy to see all of his stores shuttered and his employees freed.

We've had a bunch of Subway threads before. I stand by my position that I'd never eat at Subway when I know of a superior nearby alternative (ie when I'm anyplace I know well), but Subway does offer two things of value: some of their stores are open really, really late (I know of a 24 hour one nearby; note, this is a lot better for me than for their workers), and if you're on the road and especially if you're stopping for food and gas on a road trip (and there's usually nothing local nearby at a highway exit 100 miles from a city, at least not easy to find) Subway is a much better (ie less disgusting) option than most of the other chain fast food places you're likely to find.
18
Don't forget that a few years ago a Jimmy Johns delivery guy was killed on his bike. I think he was in a hurry because his job demanded it.
19
While I agree that there are much better sandwich shops in Seattle then subway or jimmy johns, it would be good for Paul to remember that not all of Seattle lives in Cap Hill and then for some a 5 dollar foot long is all they can afford.

@2: as of a year ago or so (last time I had one) the safeway sandwiches that they actually make on the spot when you order them were decent. Better than Subway. Their pre-wrapped ones are junk, though.

@8/15 What sort of help are you looking for? Would you prefer that I offered my assistance in helping you make your lunch? It was just a suggestion based on your (boo hoo) comment.

Please wait...
