John Oliver combines Jon Stewart's puckish sarcasm with Rachael Maddow's long-winded wonkishness and arrives at something that makes even the dullest topics (native advertising anyone?) delightful to watch. Don't even think of dropping Oliver from the Monday morning lineup. I need my fix!
Glad he brought up all the military equipment. How long after a crowd started gathering in Ferguson do you think someone said "Hey! Let's try out that new MRAP and the tear gas! I haven't seen what the gas masks look like on me yet! Give a bunch of boys a bunch of toys and they will want to play with them. And the point about the cops aiming the guns when soldiers would NEVER do that was also a very important one.
Has anyone found out what kind of Program 1099 gear the Seattle Police Department has recieved? I have seen at least one Bearcat roving around SODO. I would really like to know how militaristically my right to peaceable assembly may be put down.
