I'm excited to have Amazon drones fly in Seattle. I've been looking for a reason to buy a high powered rifle and do some target practice!

"Deep libertarian streak". That's a good one. Amazon's only use for laws is as a guide to what to try getting away with. They belong in Texas, pumping up the secessionist fervor and operating with the barest minimum of legal responsibility. Bezos could probably arrange a lunch meeting with Gov. Goodhair for a donation in the low millions to his defense fund and get the last shreds of employee protections eliminated.

They've been using robotic carts in hospitals for decades to deliver supplies. I guess nurse unions aren't as strong. Or they realize they'd rather be doing work that's more interesting than running supplies to rooms.

Even older is an invention called a "dumb waiter", that brings supplies between floors. Don't let the unions hear about that one.

@4 - Jesus, Bezos, just register already.

Jezus, @4, way to be an Amazon shill.

Sure, Amazon has some nice high paying jobs in Seattle. Great. They also have some of the shittiest warehouse jobs in recent history that have working conditions barely above that of a Chinese sweatshop.

Bezos has made a few charitable donations, but is notably and significantly less charitable than other companies and other people of his wealth. There is a pretty high likelihood that I've given a higher percentage of my income to charity than Jeff Bezos, and likely so has Paul Constant.

Amazon does some interesting things, and provides some nice services to their customers. Amazon also seems hell bent on completely monopolizing every aspect of publishing, and if they succeed, that will have detrimental effects on literature and minority voices (because there is less profit in minority voices).

Being a vacuous shill for Amazon is lame. If nobody is critical of Amazon, they will reign unchecked, and only a fool wants to see that. I may not agree with everything Paul Constant writes about Amazon, but I'm damned glad he's watching them with a skeptical eye. Someone should.

@5: You really are a stupid ass, you know? Unions welcome robotic carts and dumbwaiters because those devices free their members to THINK, and to make judgments that machines can't make. Thereby their members become more valuable to their employers, and to the people they serve. I hardly expect a Dumb Fucking Engineer to understand that.

"Being a vacuous shill for Amazon-hate is lame."

There, I fixed it for ya.....

BTW, in honor of Paul Constantpated's post, I will be purchasing a minimum of $100 tonight on Amazon.

Amazon is opening a new fulfillment facility in Kent at the old Boeing Space Center...which is near Bezos private aerospace company Blue Origin.
