In February, I wrote about an effort by a group of Central District residents to purchase a large piece of property in that gentrifying neighborhood, at 23rd and Union. This Saturday, the group will hold its second meeting to discuss its efforts. "For the Love of the Neighborhood Part 2" will be held at the Monica's Village Place Community Room (140 23rd Ave S) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is being organized by the Union Street Business Association (a group of individuals who want to support black-owned businesses in the CD) and Africatown Seattle (a group that wants to strengthen the black economic base in the city). Organizers say the meeting is open to everyone and ask that you come armed with ideas. Lunch will be provided.
