Ninety-Five Percent of Garfield High School Juniors Are Boycotting the SBAC Test: "In Seattle," the Seattle Times reports, "the protests continue to grow despite warnings that they could put the state’s federal funding at risk." The Garfield student government explained their reasons for the boycott in a communique that you can read in full over here.

Woman Attacked in Transit Tunnel Sues City of Seattle and Metro: Private security guards stood by while Aiesha Steward-Baker was attacked by a group of youngsters, according to the lawsuit. "Steward-Baker, then 15, asked officers to walk her to the bus stop so the group of youths following her would back off," Seattlepi.com reports. "Instead, attorney Therese Lavallee said in court papers, the four Seattle Police Department officers told her 'it was time for her to leave and that they were tired of 'all these kids' downtown causing trouble.'"

Today Is the First Day of the Washington Legislature's Special Session: Governor Jay Inslee has charged Democrats and Republicans with reconciling their budget proposals over the next 30 days. "In terms of action," Crosscut reports, "today will merely see the negotiators brief their caucuses this afternoon. Then, the talks will go back behind closed doors with periodic detailed updates to the caucuses, plus vaguer public updates to the press. This routine could last for several weeks."

Boeing Wants Oklahoma City to Give It $6 Million: ...for moving about 900 jobs there from Washington State. "At the same time," the Everett Herald reports, "Boeing will continue collecting tax breaks worth millions from Washington. Those tax incentives will be unaffected by the aerospace giant's decision to move work out of state." Gross.

Microaggressions. Learn What They Are and Stop Doing Them: A microaggression is "an everyday slight, putdown, or insult toward marginalized groups," reports KUOW, citing research from Columbia University professor Derald Wing Sue showing that "microaggressions take a tremendous psychological and physical toll on the marginalized group member.”
