Spokane/Seattle producer Nice Nate (aka Nate Pringle) recently uploaded an album to Bandcamp that's a sly tribute to innovative jazz bassist/composer Charles Mingus and his inspirational 1956 album Pithecanthropus Erectus.

Thank You Charles Mingus presents 8 tracks of elegantly askew hiphop, coming off like some of Madlib and J Dilla's more contemplative releases.

Putting classic, avant-jazz motifs to cracking, head-nodding bumps isn't a new development, but Nice Nate massages these rich, raw materials into a sophisticated beat science that are worth repeat listens.
