This should be a real cool time: Seattle radio station KEXP has arranged a free concert on Pike Place Market's roof featuring local rock luminaries paying tribute to Iggy and the Stooges Sunday, August 23, at 7 pm. The "Raw Power" band—Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Barrett Martin (Tuatara, Screaming Trees), Duff McKagan (Guns n’ Roses, Velvet Revolver; by the way, Duff's currently recording a new album with former GNR bandmate Izzy Stradlin), and Mike McCready (Pearl Jam, Mad Season)—will be performing songs from the Detroit proto-punk legends' combustible catalog for the first-ever performance on the iconic market's roof (under the clock where Pike Place and Pike Street meet).

While the show is free to the public, it is also a fundraiser of sorts for KEXP, which is building a new home at the Seattle Center. Those who want a VIP experience can contribute to what KEXP is calling a CrowdRise fundraiser. Participants can gain access to a pre-gig dinner and an afterparty with the Raw Power musicians as well as a group of KEXP Groundbreakers and DJs. Other premiums include a signed event poster and up to $1,000 in travel expenses. Ten dollars gets you one entry, $25 three entries, and $50 seven entries. You have until noon August 14 to enter. All proceeds go to the Campaign for KEXP’s New Home.

Let's hope Raw Power do the epic dirge from The Stooges, "We Will Fall"... but that it doesn't become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
