It's often said that those who don't plan, plan to fail. But whoever made up that old chestnut probably didn't know this late-breaking scoop: Dan Bejar of the New Pornographers but mainly of Destroyer—whose expansive new album, Poison Season, is coming out in a fortnight—is playing a FREE show at Hilliard's Brewery in scenic Ballard TOMORROW NIGHT. Also on the bill are Vancouver band the Belle Game and Seattle's own Dude York. And also guess what: The beer is free. Suck on that. This event is part of the JanSport® Bonfire Series (note: a bonfire is likely), and space is limited.

If you want to go, be 21 or older and RSVP at jansportbonfiresessions.noisey.com.

Before you decide, why not lend an ear to "Times Square," the brand-new single from the forthcoming Poison Season:

Or feast your eyes on the new video for "Girl in a Sling," also from Poison Season.

You could always sample "Dream Lover" (from same):

Or perhaps your ears might be better pleased by my personal fave from the Destroyer catalog, "El Rito," from the Five Spanish Songs EP:

Or whatever, play ’em all at the same time for all I care, you pungent, seething artists!

Just remember that a full-blown Destroyer show (with Frog Eyes opening) will be happening Friday, October 16, at the Neptune. But October is like forever from now. Either way, you've got a lot of decisions to make, young squires. Perhaps you should consider soliciting some advice from your trusted old pal Things to Do, The Stranger's exhaustively compiled yet delightfully curated online events calendar. Either way, my thoughts turn, as they so often do, the the words inscribed in our consciousness by no less a fellow-Canadian than Loverboy, who fondly remind us that whatever leisure activity we may select, everybody's working for the weekend. Everybody wants a new romance.
