When you love, love, love a show that way I loved Pippin, you never know whether it's just your personality/your mood/your biases/your date or it's actually, truly, empirically a great show. But I was pretty sure.

I told you to "cancel your plans"—whatever your plans were (I hope no one canceled any surgeries)—to go see it. So far as I know, no one canceled surgery to go see it, or if they did, they didn't regret canceling surgery to go see it. But someone did drive all the way up from Portland on my recommendation. That's a long drive! And a lot of pressure!

I don't know this person. All I have is the amazing letter she sent us about her experience afterward.

Christopher,

Thanks for the recommendation/command to go see Pippin. I drove up to Seattle and took my best friend and my 19 year old son. None of us knew anything about it beyond your brief description and we all loved it. Driving home last night, my son and I had an hours long conversation fueled by the experience of the play. We covered different ways we thought you could interpret the play, is it intentional or a weakness of the play that only Pippin shows character development, how impressed he was by the use of color and light in the show (he's an artist), when his brother might come out and does he even need to, whether some extended family members have evolved in their thinking yet and how much, his worry about me dating after my divorce and decision to trust my judgment (!), and on and on. It was the best time I've ever had driving I-5. I discovered not long after buying the tickets that this is a touring show which is coming to Portland. So I'm an idiot, but it worked out beautifully because now I can take my younger son when it's in Portland.

See? Also: phew. Also: If that doesn't convince you to go see Pippin when it's in Portland, I don't know what will. And I don't know what your problem is. And you're wrong. And I'm not talking to you anymore.

My problem? My problem is I've fallen into a Priscilla Lopez YouTube hole and I can't get out. Here she is being interviewed about Pippin.

And for old time's sake, here she is performing the best song in A Chorus Line"Nothing"—at a Broadway tribute thingy in 2011:
