Last night, the Frye Art Museum let Stranger staffers in to see a sneak preview of their show Genius / 21 Century / Seattle, which opens tonight. I'm totally biased, because the show consists of all of my favorite Seattle artists, and all of my colleagues' favorite artists—all the artists who've won Stranger Genius Awards over the years—but whoa the show is good.

It includes 3D art by Jim Woodring (3D glasses provided), an installation by SuttonBeresCuller that explodes out of the floor, and a short story by Sherman Alexie vinyl-lettered to a wall. (Have you ever seen a short story by Sherman Alexie vinyl-lettered to a wall?) Plus, there's an amazing homage to Alexie by Paul Mullin, also vinyl-lettered to a wall. And video work by C. Davida Ingram, watercolors by Jeffry Mitchell, and more.

Plus, there's four months of original performances, commissions, talks, and readings (follow that link for detailed information), starting with a durational piece by zoe|juniper tomorrow from noon to 4.

As for tonight, OC Notes will be spinning from 7 to 11 pm. The show is sold out—they're not taking any more reservations—but someone from the museum just told me they'll be letting people in on standby. The Frye is always free.
