The case at General Porpoise as of a few minutes ago. Christopher Frizzelle

Eli has been salivating over the photos of General Porpoise doughnuts, which are within our two-block radius, and yesterday afternoon he and Angela and I went by to get some and they were sold out, so this morning, getting some was my top priority.

They were out of vanilla custard, and I was too scared to get peanut butter and grape jelly, and chocolate and marshmallow sounded heavy, like I would need to take a nap right after—but I have a lot to do today, no napping—so I went with lemon curd. It's like biting into a pillow of bright, tart lemon. Five minutes after it disappeared into my face, I don't feel like I usually do after eating a doughnut. You know, where you lose your will to live? I don't feel that way at all. Rich just said something funny, laughter happened, and I'm about to go jump on the office bean bag.

Just dress warmly if you go, because you'll probably be standing outside part of your wait. When I first got there, I had to stand outside.

But it went quickly.

And this Americano is delicious.
