NYT:

With tears streaming down his face, President Obama on Tuesday condemned the repeated spasms of gun violence across America as he announced new executive actions intended to reduce the number of mass shootings, suicides and killings that have become routine in the nationā€™s communities. Speaking in the East Room of the White House surrounded by gun control activists and the families of gun victims, Mr. Obama broke down as he spoke about the young children shot to death in 2012 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. ā€œFirst graders,ā€ he said, his eyes drifting to a distant place and becoming red with tears. The president wiped his eye and paused to regain his composure. ā€œEvery time I think about those kids, it gets me mad,ā€ he said.

It's an incredibly moving speech. One of his best. Watch the whole thing. Sometimes I think Obama is a better president than this country deserves.

And you gotta love Obama having the nerve to quote St. Ronald Reagan on background checksā€”Reagan supported themā€”which is just what we've come to expect from Our Most Divisive President Ever. Vox explains Obama's executive order on guns, aka, "[his] boldest action on guns yet." Pundits are pointing out that a Republican presidentā€”a President Rubio, Cruz, Jeb!, or Trumpā€”could instantly undo the president's new executive orders on gun control. And, hey, they're all promising to do just that:

Which is another reason why we can't let a President Rubio, Cruz, Jeb!, or Trump happen.
