Unfortunately, the damage has been done. Innocent bystanders have died and Planned Parenthood is still under attack. As much as I hope those two rot in prison I'm afraid Planned Parenthood will never recover its reputation. Well done people, what's your next target? Hospitals?

This seems like James O'Keefe's "investigations" all over again. Conservative activist goes after liberal cause, makes false accusation of illegal activities using highly edited video to deliberately mislead people, conservative activist shown to be untruthful, conservative activist found criminally and civilly liable.

@2: Exactly. That's probably where they got the idea to do this, from that little shitstain O'Keefe. He even tried his hand at entrapping them himself, back in 2008. Despite the slaps on the wrists O'Keefe has received (any monetary aspect of which is a non-factor, as conservative groups would not hesitate to cover those for him), he still gets what he wants out of it: he damages liberals. He's cost multiple people their jobs, and destroyed ACORN. Mission accomplished. So tmplknght is probably completely right in this regard.
5
But great news in any case.
6
I think we should wait and see if anyone is actually convicted before getting too excited.
7
Abbott may claim his own investigation is going somewhere, but his star witnesses will have to explain that they've been indicted (and by that time convicted) of a felony involving falsification of a government form. It tends to detract from their credibility.
8
@3 is right. My first and foremost reaction to this is BWAHAHAHAHA.
9
@6: With Exhibit A being clear-cut video manipulations designed to mislead, the prosecution should have no problem.
10
Yeah Raindrop, you were good to provide that to the Slog commentariat back then. That was much appreciated actually.
So will Carly Fiorina issue an apology or retraction on this matter?
11
@10

Rest assured, she will not.

Good news three deaths late, so I can't laugh.

Too bad Manslaughter charges can't be brought.

Or they be charged with the damage done to stem cell research.

They have blood on their hands.

But there's some vindication of Planned Parenthood, thankfully.

One other point, on January 16, Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit against Daleiden, in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco. The criminal case against Daleiden, will undoubtedly be helpful in that civil case for discovery purposes, and because Daleiden may be wholly discredited by the time any civil trial occurs.

ayyyyyyyy lmaoooooooooooo
15
20 years in Texas prison is like 100 years anywhere else.

Good.

Having heard my mother's tales of her encounters with botched abortions in the late 50s and 60s as a home healthcare nurse, Thank god for Roe V Wade.
17
@2 One large difference between the vicious attacks on Acorn and PP is cowardly Democrats in congress voting overwhelmingly with Republicans to de-fund Acorn (345-75 and 83-7).
18
Unfortunately everyone's mind is already made up. Try to get someone to admit that these videos were highly edited and you will get the "yah but still" response.

It is very easy to let the facts fall victim of spin. I am pro choice, but I hate one sided spin. Fact check proved the video was real and that there is an un edited version proving that they were selling the fetuses. The issue is that they were not selling them to make a lot of money. What is wrong is not telling the patient if their fetus is being used for that. http://www.factcheck.org/2015/07/unspinn…

Fact the video is true. Lie, the edited version makes it look like Plan Parenthood was out to profit.

@19 your link says "Nucatola repeatedly talks about affiliates only wanting to provide a service to their patients, who elect to donate the tissue for medical research"

Did you have some evidence to support your claim or are you just a concern troll?
22
@19, your link says in several places that they do get informed consent before donating. And "not selling them to make a lot of money" is not the right way to think about the practice either. They are donating fetal tissues to research institutions to benefit the general good. The receiving institutions pay for handling costs (at a loss to Planned Parenthood), just like hospitals pay for handling of adult organs for transplant. From your link:

"we help patients who want to donate tissue for scientific research, and we do this just like every other high-quality health care provider does — with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards"

The PP official balks several times when offered higher prices for fetal tissues, something erased from the video (incidentally, that's what the two "buyers" are under indictment for).

"The discussion only reaches $100 because the “buyers” in the video mention higher prices. At one point, Gatter says that “we’re not in this for the money,” and later she reiterates that “money is not the important thing.”

It's not an ideal situation, I know. But most stem cells (the best ones anyway) come from fetuses that are dead. And the tissues have to be harvested soon after their deaths so that they are useful. Just like harvesting organs for transplantation. I know it sounds horrible (just like harvesting organs from a brain-dead accident victim), but it's our only source of several important medical tissues. And shouldn't their deaths be useful in some way?

Also, what 20 and 21 said (faster than I, apparently).
24
@20-23: Thanks you guys, for being so quick. You have spared my blood pressure.
25
@19 Yah but still.
26
You all missed the point of my post. People say the video was edited. There was an edited version and an unedited version. This very article starts out by saying that the "heavily edited video" from last summer. Planned parenthood did nothing illegal. They only found two planned parenthoods nationwide profiting from the sale of fetuses and they weren't breaking the law. The argument is lost when people keep saying that they didn't do it, when they did. People should always have the right to do what they want with their bodies. The government should have no say in it. The right's argument is on who should pay for it. I'm all for subsidies. The free abortion issue I think is wrong.
27
@26: No. No Parenthood "profited".
28
LOL at 26 now.

Please wait...
