Remember Kalief Browder: Browder was imprisoned on Rikers Island when he was 16 years old. While awaiting a trial on charges of stealing a backpack—charges Browder said he was innocent of—he spent two years in solitary confinement. Last year, after being released without a trial or a conviction, Browder committed suicide.

Seattle Tunnel Partners Says Stopping Work on Bertha Is Wrong: Last week, Governor Jay Inslee ordered a work stoppage on downtown Seattle's bored tunnel project after a barge full of excavated soil spilled into Elliott Bay and a sinkhole opened up near the tunnel boring machine's cutter head. This week, STP says Inslee's move was "unjustified." From STP: “Stopping the [tunnel-boring machine] at its current location is not recommended and increases the risk of creating additional sinkholes." Mike Lindblom at the Seattle Times has more.

State Senator Pam Roach Got Kicked Off a Human Trafficking Task Force: Because of complaints that she verbally abused sex trafficking victims. In a letter to Roach, Lt. Gov. Brad Owen described the senator claiming that "sexually trafficked and homeless youth are deliberately trying not to fit in with their families by tattooing their faces and getting piercings." Owen also said Roach questioned whether labor trafficking victims were "illegals" and mused that sex trafficked minors "probably spend their money on drugs."
