I love that they are going to be right next door to a bath house. Super fun!
2
I thought there were gorgeous pictures of a gorgeous new bookstore here?

Beautiful photos. It will never be the original space, but it looks like it could be equally great in its own way.
5
will it still have the cafe ?

try reading the fucking article!

At Hugo House, we're really looking forward to having EB within spitting distance and hope we can work together to make the Hill a haven for writers and readers.

Hooray for Capitol Hill and Elliott Bay staying in business, but is there any evidence that Amazon's "Kindle money" has anything at all to do with their move to South Lake Union? Is Kindle all that profitable, and didn't they plan the move ages ago?

Well done Paul.

Sounds like a good move. I hope to be resident in Seattle by then. I'll be in Ballard within striking distance of Capitol Hill. Am really sad about Epilogue Books closing in Ballard.

Does this mean HH and EBBC will have a big, sloppy orgy of mediocrity up there atop the hill?

Hopefully, the new EBBC interior won't be just another woody book barn. Gimmicky design CAN bring people in, often just for an atmosphere that provides some individualistic relief from the ordinary. Gimmicky is indeed a bad word, but in this day and age, EB has to have something more to offer than just their brand name and book readings. It doesn't have to be a Via Tribunali or a funkadelic horrorshow or anything (though a lunch at any VT or equivalent might yield a few ideas...), but color - skillfully applied - works in ways mysterious.

Hopefully, EB won't be like Powell's, with their elementary school color coding, which makes their Texas Book Depository even more tedious to encounter (an environment that no doubt contributes to the famous sullenness of its' employees).

If EB wants to lure readers away from the borax convenience of B&N and Borders, they're going to have to get their collective ass into some kind of adventurous mode. (Mr. Aaron seems a tad bit Land's Endish-dedicated in his style choices...)

In any case, I send them every good wish for success.
