Where Are Your Manners, Heroin Junkies?

Comments

1
Oh, we have some of those, too!

But don't you know, anon, you must be an entitled yuppie transplant from BELLEVUE to not want to see people shooting up on your front steps.
2
Well, by Seattle standards...it's pretty clear WHO THE HATER/JUDGER IS HERE.

And then you actually write in!!!

Reeducation camp for YOU.
3
Why do you expect someone who disrespects themselves enough to take heroin to respect your request to not shoot up in view of your kids?
4
Heh, that blue light is a good trick. Hat-tip.
5
All heroin addicts care about is heroin.
6
WTF do you care? Think addiction is something contagious that your kids can catch? Offend your delicate sense of aesthetics? If you really can't take Life In The Big City, maybe you'd like to pay for one of those rehab programs you're so quick to recommend to someone so penniless they have to shoot up on the street.
7
@6: they care because it's THEIR FUCKING HOUSE. And because there's a small kid there, and it might be nice to protect him/her from the sight of people stabbing their veins for at least a few years, doncha think?
8
Thank you, #7! God, I sincerely hate when people try to coddle these damn junkies! I've been around some and dated a few and they really make me ill.
9
What #7 said. You can live in a city and not be expected to put up with addicts sleeping on your lawn, contrary to what many "progressive" Seattlites (who prefer to just ignore the problem, because THAT'S helpful), would like you to believe.

We have such low fucking quality of life standards out here, it's unbelievable. Trying living in Boston or New York for a year and see what you COULD have if only our city would start enforcing the laws.
10
What's especially infuriating is that you have to pay through the nose to live on the Hill, and yet walking around, you often feel like you're in the poor part of town. If I work my ass off to be able to afford to live in a desirable neighborhood like Capitol Hill, I DO expect certain living conditions.

In other cities, you have a separation of urban poor, middle class, and rich neighborhoods. But here, there is nowhere but the shitty-ass suburbs to go if you want to feel safe and not have to deal with junkies. And the suburbs out here are real fucking cultural wastelands.

I walk down Federal street with all the fancy mansions, and still see dudes wandering around stoned off their ass at 10am. It's inescapable and should not be acceptable.
11
@10 I'm not sure that making the argument that since you make more money, you should have better policed, safer, cleaner streets where you live is going to work in your favor on The Stranger forums... And anyway, it's not like Capitol Hill all of a sudden became that way, so I can't imagine you moved there with your big money for the wholesomeness that you feel comes with your mansion.
12
#11, nope, when I moved to the Hill seventeen years ago, I worked at a hole-in-the wall burger joint and waitressed for minimum wage for many years like most directionless people in their 20's. But the neighborhood's changed. I used to walk home safely at 2am every night ten years ago. In the last two years, I have been harassed and physically assaulted so that I now find myself taking 10-block cab rides home for my own safety. It's bullshit.

I don't live in a fucking Federal St. mansion (maybe you haven't heard how high the Hill's rents are). I just enjoy walking down the street because it makes me feel like I live in slightly less of a shithole.
13
@12, fair enough. Your comment (especially the clear separation between high, middle, and low income neighborhoods) just sounded very classist and strongly of rich entitlement. I don't think you should have to spend a certain amount of money to live on safe streets free of junkies under your window shooting up. And I don't think people who make enough to live on Capitol Hill deserve it any more than anywhere else in Seattle.
14
I don't think so, either, and I guess it does sound that way, probably because I have no idea what the best solution is. I guess I'm just frustrated, as a lot of people are, about the deterioration of the city, especially given that we are one of the wealthiest cities in America. And it seems as though there should be some part of the city that you can live in that is different, just as there are many parts of Boston, New York, and even LA that are actual nice, relatively junkie-free areas. In Seattle, there's nowhere but the suburbs.
15
i caught a couple loser addicts smoking crack under my kitchen window two floors down, and those of you that know what an incinckerator is, let's just say the 200 degree shower they got, was a bit of a buzz kill.. i highly recommend it to those lowly drug freaks that inhabit your space..
17
This is what you get for raising kids in Capital Hill. Seriously, if you cared about your kids, you would live in the burbs.
18
What's especially infuriating is that you have to pay through the nose to live on the Hill, and yet walking around, you often feel like you're in the poor part of town. If I work my ass off to be able to afford to live in a desirable neighborhood like Capitol Hill, I DO expect certain living conditions.
Clearly, what you pay for to live "on the Hill" is not what you think you are paying for. What you really are paying for is the caché of telling people that you live "on the Hill". If it's not quality of life (which apperently includes scads of junkies), than it's pure snob factor

In reality you "Hill" snobs are the same as the snobs that live in Bellevue, Kirkland, and yes, Woodenville. Snobs.

Otherwise, you wouldn't put up with the high rents for shitholes.

Admit it, you Capital Hill folks are snobs.
19
AZiff for the win!
21
You can just say they were trying to force their way inside and do whatever you would like to them.

Shoot 'em, beat 'em with a crowbar, anything. They're publicly shooting up, so it's a good bet they have criminal records, track marks, and all the other little clues to police that they are completely guilty of anything you accuse them of.

Seattle has a nuisance crime problem because the majority of the people here refuse to simply take care of shit like this. So quit your fucking whining, get out a butcher knife, and stab these junkie cunts up the next time.
22
How about tearing down Club Z instead of the entire Bauhaus city block???
23
The answer is easy.

Just offer said offenders a hot load.

Hipsters and heroin, I just don't care.
24
#18, Capitol Hill isn't exactly sophisticated, and unless you consider gauche, loud, drunk girls in minidresses and stripper heels and guys who go to clubs in their corporate douchebag dress shirts the new hipster, it's not exactly cool, either.

A lot of us live there purely for the convenience of being close to work and good places to eat.

It's 'cachet' in America, by the way.
26
@1 What so unreasonable about his request don't be such a hippie hipster.
27
@26,

#1 was being sarcastic.
28
Invite this junkie to clean your basement, lock the door and forget about it before a few weeks.
29
#22 - don't tear down Club Z. Where would I
then go to feed my other addicktion?
30
This experience is included in your $1999.99 monthly rent. Next time read the lease.
32
One can both have compassion for those in the throes of addiction and not want them shooting up in front of your kid. This isn't a partisan issue, it's common sense.
33
junkies: there's a time and a place, and it's called College.
34
For those who dont have a hot water sprayer, suggest stocking up on beehive spray, fire extinguishers, Frank Sinatra, or anything else annoying to them. Dont let the entitled bastards shoot on your property without taking your own entitled stand. Nothing kills a buzz faster than a load of pepper spray to the face. Derelicts!
35
@34 You and your brilliant community-reformer cohorts, with your clever insights of social and vigilante justice, might do well to consult your attorneys, most of whom would wisely advise you to:

A) Avoid using pepper spray to confront and attack a person;

B) Save up a shitload of dough for the criminal and civil actions that might be coming your way if you follow your own stupid advice.
36
It does not matter if this story happened in Capitol Hill, Federal Way, Burien, or Belltown. The fact is that shooting up heroin in broad daylight is wrong. Shooting up heroin where small kids can see it is horrible, and anyone who says 'shame on anon for caring about kids being exposed to heroin use,' is an idiot... @6. Yeah, you.

No one should be exposed to heroin addicts, in the city OR in the suburbs. People actively addicted to heroin need to be in jail or treatment, end of story. Please note that I said actively addicted, not in recovery, or recovered. There is no other way, really. Pretending that it doesn't exist or ignoring it, that works real well... Seriously, wake up, a drug that physically hurts you if you don't use it, even though you want to stop using it is pure evil.

How do I know? I am a recovered heroin addict, 8 years clean.
37
Seattle needs a supervised injection site like Insite in Vancouver http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insite
