South Lake Union's "Diversity"

Diversity, 9 times out of 10, get entirely equated with "other-than-white-ness".

On a tangent, as a East Indian (educated and unemployed), I have felt that we have been somewhat absent on discourse regarding race/have perpetuated discrimination against other people of color. There's a couple recent exceptions that I can think of. Joel Stein's piece in TIME a few years back aroused a lot of backlash and fervor from the South Asian community. Vijay Prashad's book "The Karma of Brown Folk" was quite eye opening as well. I think the facade of all East Indian being successful and affluent in this country has something to do with it, but I also wonder about our links to the caste system. Curious to hear other East Indians thoughts on this, and would LOVE to be proven wrong.

What's the point of this moronic article...

True, if obvious. But it beats an all white affluent neighborhood like Ballard. The fact that Brown people are becoming intricately entwined with the white middle and upper class is noteworthy in and of itself.

I've always thought of the language around "diversity" as a way to include various groups of Caucasian people with brown people.

But then again, there are lots of brown people who aspire to be assimilated. They embrace completely "American culture" which is always by default, white culture.

There are lots of brown people who are from voluntary immigrant heritage like every single last one of the white Americans are. So they have that in common.

Yes diversity for diversity's sake NOW! Dont forget to import recently paroled sex offenders and other violent anti social types as well, and definatly welcome the illegal aliens with all their lawless ways we need to be as diverse as possible or it will not work. In fact the government should get involved and spend lots of our money to help make all neighborhoods as diverse as possible,Who wants to live in an "all white affluent" neighborhood like Ballard. They should bulldoze the whole place and make it a national diversity memorial, that will teach em to be all boring, white and affluent and want to live amongst their peers!....Trust me this manufactured contrived diversity is way over rated, and you are worrying way to much about it"more brown skinned folks"..."but not black or latino" you are an ass

The snark about this article justifies the article. Nice one again, Sherman.

If a neighborhood is all white or all black, or all Vietnamese who cares? It is neither worse nor better then a mixed neighborhood, it just is. Can't stand fucks who think it needs to be "fixed".

Please wait...
