Besides having the best name in modern fiction, local author Ann Pancake has quietly published a formidable body of work. She’s written a novel and a wheelbarrow full of short fiction, including her newest collection, Me and My Daddy Listen to Bob Marley. These are stories of poor people—many living in West Virginia, where Pancake is from—told in spare language that brings to mind Dorothy Allison, if Allison wrote with an inventive James Joyce lilt. Nobody else in town writes like Pancake, and you can find out why at this reading.
