Darkness Film Series

Henry Art Gallery (map) University District
Thurs, April 13, 6-8:30 pm

The Henry will screen films that explore the darkness—reflections of madness, colonialism, or oppression—of world cinema. The first film was Touki Bouki, which Charles Mudede called a "mind-blowing Afro-punk experiment." Shura (March 16) is Toshio Matsumoto's Noh-influenced revenge drama of a cheated samurai; Sergey Paradjanov's The Color of Pomegranates (April 13), banned by the Soviets for its noncompliance with socialist realist aesthetics, tells the story of the poet Sayat Nova.
