All the trailers seem to have a 'brainwashing/robotic/Stepford wives' kind of vibe to it, and that shit terrifies me...

Jordan Peele was on the Nerdist podcast this week and the film is most definitely inspired by Stepford Wives (also Rosemary's Baby). However, he said that it is not a comedy (though there may be some laughs) so this reviewer's perception might have been skewed by the knowledge of Peele as a comedian.
