Four hours?
No thanks.

Why the hell did they pick you to review this? The film is aimed at a very specific audience-Deadheads- and you clearly arent one.

@2 Wouldn't that be a good reason to review it? I'm sure Deadheads will love this movie without hesitation, so perhaps someone who's not as big of a fan will write a more objective review for the merely curious moviegoers.

I'd like to see at least some of this documentary, although four hours might be a bit much for me. The Grateful Dead's influence on music and its place in American counterculture are undeniable. I like some of the Dead's music, mostly the more musically intricate or unusual material, but I find Garcia's work with Grisman more enjoyable.

For what it's worth, I think the author's calling the Dead "the most successful cult band in history" isn't so certain. Rush is easily overlooked but they have an absolute die hard fan base. They're apparently #3 after The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in consecutive gold and platinum albums, having sold something north of 40 million records. I suppose it boils down to how you define "cult" and "successful".

Please wait...
