Love this review -- you reminded me of all the good parts of the movie (punching kids in the face), and hilariously lamented all the freaking cliches. And yeah, I could not imagine them writing those full songs for the gigs in the drives in-between, no matter how turgid they were (even banal mope takes time).

It's pretty obvious from the review that they never watched the movie. Every scene mentioned is in the trailer.

It's actually quite an endearing movie, and if you payed attention you'd notice some pretty remarkable aspects that sets this movie apart.
1. The lead character is a real musician, he was also the writer, director and producer.
2. The songs in the movie were recorded live, you are not seeing any lip synching when you watch the movie.
3. The movie moves in other directions that aren't even mentioned in this article.

Another piss poor performace from another wanna-be hipster slacker...come one Stranger, you can do better, you've done better, this movie will leave a great impression on many people...and you missed it because of your pretentiousness, bummer for you...but YEAY! for those of us who actually enjoy movies for what they are, movies, not personal statements about how cool we are because we panned it.

LCJay - actually, it's pretty obvious from the review that the reviewer did in fact watch the movie, and she didn't like it. So, her opinion is different from yours. And she clearly has nothing better to do with her time than pan movies she might have otherwise cared about, had she not been so keen to write a cool hipster/ slacker/ pretentious personal piece for The Stranger? So she'd - what, rather try and win new friends than allow her heart/mind to be opened just a little by saying she found this to be poignant and sweet, when she simply didn't like it? Follow your logic.
