The problem with Affleck being the weakest link is that he dominates the screen time. I didn't think the six house guests were fleshed out at all. He should have dropped his own family side story and spent that time with the six and the Canadians. There was no real attachment to them during the escape and that made the repetitive tension you mention even more glaringly contrived.
UGH...PT Anderson makes a very boring movie and critics fall all over themselves to make excuses for it "Sure I didn't enjoy it and I was bored, but man PT Anderson is a genius so this movie must be amazing". Affleck makes a very enjoyable movie and critics bash him for it. Come on Paul, give Affleck his due, he's quickly becoming the next Eastwood...To bad critics seem to hate actors who direct.
Also, the uptown having free popcorn for Canadians on their Canadian Apperication viewing of this was awesome! So glad the uptown is back, thanks STIFF! :)
