Very sad about Star Life, which was one of my favorite cafes in the city. I've never had a better cookie than the vegan chocolate chip ones there. I was always shocked that Wings remembered my name.
Terrible! I could do without the Llega, the torta I had there gave me serious acid reflux, but the Azteca and the Puerco Lloron -- pretty soon the only Mexican places around are going to be gimmick bars with some food items for rationalization.
doesn't it seem odd that many of these failures are in booming Cap Hill and Ballard?
because all the old shit in Seattle will be killed by all the new, gentrifying shit in Seattle. Yea to growth and development and all sorts of urban renewal in our 'hoods, because, ummm, density and capitalism!
I'm desperately sad about Madison Park Conservatory. I loved that place. It introduced me to beef tongue and octopus salad with watermelon. It had a beautiful view and the perfect outdoor space to view it in the summer. I could only rarely afford MPC, but now I wish I had just gone broke there.
I didn't know Stellar's pizza had declined. It was pretty good the last time I had it--but the service was so aggressively, floridly awful that I swore I'd never go back. So they're closed now? Too bad, so sad...okay, I'm really not.
Agree @11, Panos put me over the edge. This list makes me very sad. I knew Puerco and Boulangerie were closing, but Panos and Stellar were good and I'm sad about Marche.
Another note to MPC - if you want to make it in Mad Park you should consider the neighborhood. Yes, there's plenty of $, and also plenty of people that just want GOOD food, it doesn't have to be lamb kidneys every night. (A piece of chicken or fish would be great!) And nice people to serve the food with friendly attitudes...
After having visited Greenwood Mandarin once in a while living in Seattle in the late 90s, I dropped in once in 2006. The host (owner, I assume) said, " hey, haven't seen you in a while". Such pleasantness will be missed.
Another note to MADISON PARK CONSERVATORY: Your service could have been a little less power hungry. We enjoyed our two visits, but the second one was a major put off in the cattle like way we were treated, and that we weren't permitted to order something from the menu in the upstairs bar. Why the hell not? We spent plenty, it wasn't like we were trying to cheap out, we just saw something while we waited on a table on the main level that was appealing. We did not return.
El Puerco Lloron was really great and had a sneak action element to it (despite being located right next to zig zag.) I loved taking out of towners there. Major bummer... wish I could have hit it for one last plate of carnitas.
Stellar's was the best pizza in town. I will sorely miss it. Awesome staff, atmosphere. Loved it. At least I can get a good slice at Piercoras for the...Damnit. Pizza is dead in Seattle.
Really sorry about the demise of el Puerco Lloron. It was one of the first places I ate at when I moved to Seattle 21 years ago, and I went back once or twice a year for really good chile verde and chile colorado. Where can I go now? *sob*
Great food but weird everything else.

I tried it twice, and was disappointed both times. They belong in the truck.
Boom Noodle - good riddance.
Μαλακιας!
