The fact that this list contains the new Canterbury negates any of it's credibility. That place sucks, the service is terrible - all the bartenders/servers seem to be more into talking to each other than actually providing service to the customers. The food and drinks are mediocre and overpriced. Anything that was charming about the old Canterbury is gone, and in it's place is something that feels more like a franchise than anything with any real personality.

The new Canterbury is nothing short of an abomination. The food is average and expensive and some of the servers are supremely irritating. Worse, as @1 said, it is charmless. I have no idea why they kept the name. It does have big open space and allows babies, so I can't say I'll never go there again, but I'll feel bad about it if I do.

Agreed. Should have changed the name. I wanted to cry when i walked into the place.

This reads like a press release from the mentioned restaurants. :(

Calling a bunch of these "New" is stretching it.

seriously? Big Chickie? It's okay but nothing special. You're taste buds would prefer San Fernando on Rainier/Dearborn area. WAY better bang for the buck but not as nice a space.

San Fernando may be cheaper than Big Chickie, but it's no better (although the green sauce is tasty). I'm happy Big Chickie exists and the owners were nice (same is true for San Fernando). If I was driving past it on the way home from work and I needed some take out, I wouldn't hesitate to stop there. It's be a nice place to eat outside and drink beer this summer too.

But much as I wanted it to be otherwise, the chicken at both these places is more expensive than but not significantly better than a Rotisserie Chicken from the QFC.

Happy to see the new spots on 57th in Rainier Beach getting some love (Nate's and Jude's). Redwing Cafe is also a great place with coffee, tea, beer, hard cider, house-baked pastries, and great veggie soups and sandwiches. Eventually, I expect that they will have dinner as well. They did an awesome job on the interior of the business as well. If you live in that part of town or drive through Rainier Beach on a regular basis, that's a place you want to check out.

I live in Beacon Hill and regularly head down there for soup and sandwiches. I hope the Stranger gives these folks some love one of these days in the form of full-on article.

Um, no links to restaurant websites or even just The Stranger's own internal restaurant search listing (which would then get us to the websites). Not very helpful. And, as others have mentioned, this feels like a very strange list and press release.

Lame list.
