PROG: Gel-Sol, Narvan, John Felthous

Thurs July 24.

Disclosure: I used to DJ with Gel-Sol (Andy Reichel) and Narvan (Frank Jenkins) back when PROG was confusing drinkers at the Living Room bar a couple of years ago. Along with DJ Explorateur, we fought a quixotic battle against decades-ingrained apathy and knee-jerk hatred toward progressive music. We built a small but devoted following until the Living Room closed in 2012. Soon after, Gel-Sol moved PROG to the Hazlewood Bar, and he and his mates continue to spin some of the greatest specimens of... more »

Lincolnup, Guests

Sat July 26.

Former Seattle/current Portland resident Lincolnup is one of those DJs who excel at several styles, while possessing vast knowledge of both old and new releases. A serious student of electronic music who for the last four years has run PDX’s most forward-thinking club night Bubblin with Ben Fuller, Lincolnup (Lincoln Heath) can throw down sets encompassing house, techno, garage, and many branches of bass music with enviable technical dexterity. By the way, the man is also an outstanding massage... more »

Stop Biting: Introcut, Guests

Stop Biting has been a blazing hive of hiphop activity since June 2004. Every Tuesday at Lo-Fi Performance Gallery, b-boys and b-girls gather for what has become a major talent magnet in Seattle's hiphop ecology. Head to the back room and marvel as dancers twirl, headspin, giant step, shuffle, glide, spasm, uprock, pop, lock, and commit dozens of other athleticisms while DJs drop nonstop gems to inspire the action. Now organized by Mathew "Introcut" Moroni, MC Suntonio "Asun" Bandanaz, and DJ Ab... more » $5.

Bloodlust: DJs Gin & Tonic

Last Wed.

I've not been to Pony's Bloodlust night, which happens every last Wednesday, but it looks intriguing. Hosted by DJs Gin & Tonic (a hail of booze for those names), Bloodlust spotlights "goth, synthpop, industrial, and deathdisko." Of course, with any genre, only about 10 to 15 percent of it is great, so let's hope Gin & Tonic will rigorously zero in on the killer cuts from those styles. And if they're taking requests, may I suggest something from Patrick Cowley's recently unearthed School Daze (D... more »

Emerald City Soul Club: Kenny Mac, Gene Balk, Marc Muller, Alvin Mangosing, Mike Chrietzberg, Brian Everett, George Gell, Mike "MP3s Forever" Nipper

Second Sat at 9 pm.

Why do I love Emerald City Soul Club? Because ECSC is one night's blissful reprieve from the same old musical palette and constant THUMP THUMP THUMP of other club nights. Every 45 that the DJs play sounds familiar, even the ones I'm sure I don't know, and every song swings and spins and steps across a floor that's been sprinkled with baby powder for your dressed-up dancing pleasure. It's perfect. ERIC GRANDY $10.
