@9: Oh, she's a character. If she was a Dungeons and Dragons character, she would have a chaotic good alignment. We got her an electric chainsaw for Christmas, and she's been delighted with it. She's a good mom.

My mother used to use a device that turned off just about any television to shut down Fox News on televisions in waiting rooms, restaurants, etc. She said it was pretty amusing watching staff try to figure out what went wrong and then finding that it shut off again. She's a pretty stealthy woman with a good poker face, so it wasn't hard for her to surreptitiously shut down Fox News repeatedly until people gave up and left the TV off. It was something like this thing:

I really just don't get the attitude of someone who excludes some races from their dating pool. That kind of stuff bothers me, whether it be racists who write dehumanizing pre-rejections on their dating profiles or even people who use a race-specific dating app. Granted, I'm completely out of the dating game, but shouldn't people be considering other aspects of someone besides which continent their ancestors came from? When I was single, I never thought to exclude women on a racial basis.

I've never used a dating profile (I married the woman I met in college before online dating was much of a thing) but I'm trying to imagine a scenario in which someone has a problem with too many trans people responding to a dating profile. I wouldn't want to date a transwoman either (I'd only want to date ciswomen, and I only wish the best for trans people in their own searches for love) but it doesn't seem plausible that one person would have all that many trans people responding, given that they are a relatively small proportion of the population.

Yeah, don't put stuff that could be so easily construed as anti-trans, racist, homophobic, biphobic, or whatever into your profile. You will only attract bigots with that kind of stuff.

The academic project I'm working on involves surveys of students. I managed to convince the group to include an "other" box on the gender question.

I was circumcised at birth, and I'm reasonably happy. I mean everything works, but if I could go back in time and change the paperwork in the hospital, I probably would. I'm pretty sure that circumcision was opt-out, not opt-in for the state of Texas at the time, and I don't really blame my parents. It is really weird that we have taken this religious ritual from antiquity and turned it into a standard medical procedure.

Uh, as a straight, monogamous man, I think it is wholly possible to never ever cheat. I guess most would crack under this weird ultra-seduction (kinda rapey when you think about it) scenario, but that's a pretty ridiculous setup. #20 is right. You have free will. Exercise it. Just because you feel something, you don't have to act on it.

I don't mean this to sound negative toward the letter writer, but perhaps she could try Kegel exercises to increase pressure on his penis. It might help, though it probably won't.

@2, Or, you know, people might like to have sex with the persons they love. It's good for the soul (or whatever.) Turning celibacy into this thing on a pedestal takes the whole relationship aspect away and turns into something about only one person. If you were talking about masturbation, I could see it. Sex between or among multiple people contains more than that.

At any rate, may the lustiest team win, I guess.

@27: Sometimes, you get the whole story, depending on the feed. It also contains all of the blogs and webcomics I follow, so it's nice to see everything show up in the same place. Sorry, but it just has so much more functionality than Twitter. You can get more than 240 characters and more than one picture! Wow!
