I'm surprised no one has mentioned how gross this is yet.

Somewhere, some felinophile just creamed themselves.

@47 It's a Granadpa Simpson reference, I believe

" I don't like when other people make choices for themselves that affect me negatively because I or someone else incorrectly read into them."

This is the equivalent of the "gays gross me out" argument against straight marriage.

@28 - DSG's aren't responsible for the way people interpret their behavior. If someone buys into the bisexual stereotype, then it's on them and no one else. All of the things you list are choices made by non DSG's. Instead of hating DSGs, why not direct that hate towards the people who look at them and make sweeping generalizations and faulty inferences? Why should anyone have to not do what they enjoy out of fear that some idiot will incorrectly read into the behavior and stereotype an entire group of people?

STAT - a suggestion for an alternative: why not just go with the fantasy and find someone willing to do EXACTLY as they are told in bed? I've done this before and it's beyond fun. If you find the right guy, he'll even pretend to be straight (deny your advances), let you pretend to hypnotize him, and then act like your little slave. Hell, I'd be down with that ...

@59 - That's right, and since there are a thousand commenters out there making more ridiculous statements than the ones you are responding to, does that mean you just shouldn't say anything until you address them first?

and your post @56 does a great job of dodging the issue you yourself raised, by the way. Since you are of such a clear mind as to know exactly what the problem is (and thank god SOMEONE out there knows what we need to do - about time you showed up!), please let the idiots in on the secret. We'll try to follow you the best our strung out, crazy, just plain stupid minds allow us to.

I hate my fucking state (North Carolina). While the rest of the country is moving forward, we're amending our constitution into the dark ages. And we're repealing environmental protections left and right. And choosing to not expand medicaid at no cost to us. Etc.

Congratulations Minnesota.

@14 - When can we stop relying on the social ideas of people who lived 250 years ago? It's getting old. Yes, they had some fantastic ideas, but since we don't worship these people as gods (at least, I don't) I think we can have a discussion where one of their opinion's doesn't become some kind of fact that can't be disputed. If people only owned muskets** we wouldn't be having this debate.

If you are found in possession of certain types of arms, say nuclear arms for example, the government will take them away and no one will complain. No amount of quoting dead patriots will change that fact.

**Please don't tell me about all the interesting non-musket guns they had.

@2 - What is really relevant is the proportion of people accidentally shot as a function of the proportion of people who own guns. The proportion of homes with guns has been declining for 4 decades also.

I did your homework for you: gun ownership rates declined from 50% in the 70's to 35% in the 2000's. The decline was pretty consistent. The number of gun deaths per gun owner grew by 50% from the 70's to the 80s but fell to 90% of the 1970's level in the 2000's. I don;t have data on the most recent decade.

So as a country, we are a little bit safer with guns than we were 30 years ago. Great news, but I'm not sure that makes me feel better about current gun deaths. We can do better.

And the right to bear arms is not some blank check for Americans to own whatever weapon they want. I think we all agree that no one should be able to buy a surface to air missile at the local gun convention. Clearly there need to be rules. A constructive conversation about those rules requires that we stop screaming about the second amendment anytime someone wants to legislate firearms. Freedom of assembly doesn't give me the right to hold a demonstration in the middle of a highway and freedom of speech doesn't protect me from the courts when I defame someone's character.
