Yeah, it's a copy of that.

Downey is too good for these movies. But then I read in an article that he and his wife argue over who gets to put up the next painting in their house - she wants a Miro, and he a Picasso.

If nothing else, I understand why he keeps doing these movies, and hasn't done another Kiss Kiss Bang Bang or Wonder Boys. Can't buy Miro on quirky comedies.

@6 yes, but we tend to let them off the hook. Something about privilege, IIRC.

By saying she should be better than an exploitative douchebag? No, I don't think it's dispiriting to say that she should strive better than to be an exploitative douchebag.

@1 - Say what you will about everything else. But your grasp of economics is laughable - it's like watching a creationist arguing that paleontologists plant fake dinosaur bones. So stop embarrassing yourself about quantifiable facts.

I knew who I was voting for last November when I voted for Barack Obama. None of this changes my opinion of him, because unlike many of you, I knew I was voting for a center-right technocrat and not the Great Progressive Hope (there was no such candidate, and those of you laboring under the delusion we're anything but a two-party system with your mewling chants of 'Jill Stein! Jill Stein!' voted Republican, so I hope you're proud of yourselves) I counted on my vote helping to push off the collapse of the US by a few months, rather than immediately after inauguration.

As Hunter S Thompson once said of Bill Clinton, another center-right technocrat, 'The man may be a swine - but he's OUR swine.'

Instead of whinging about the opening of a privately funded testament to an idiot's hubris (which cost $250 mil, but had $500 mil raised for it - makes you wonder what happened to the other quarter billion), you should spend your time bringing as much pressure to bear on Obama as possible on issues that actually matter. John Adams didn't publicly call Jefferson a slave-raping shithead either, and politics were a lot uglier in those days.

@5 - and yet another fantastic example of why people who take comedian's bits out of context in order to justify their shitty attitudes come off as ridiculous and utterly divorced from reality.

But hey, let's not let this distract ourselves from the utter race to the bottom currently in place.

Is there anything more annoying than working 'journalists' whining about what a hard job journalism is?

(no seriously, fuck the 4th estate)
Apr 23 johnjjeeves commented on Swan Lake Is So Goddamned Boring.
Swan Lake is awesome, your friends sound like tools (why even waste the cost of the ticket if they clearly aren't interested in dance?) and most contemporary ballets put me to sleep. Call me a philistine or what you will, but I like to be able to latch onto a story, even if you consider it simplistic (though it is sexist - funnily enough, most stories are)

Maybe it's not your fault - I'm sure a lot of people's eyes glazed over after reading your first paragraph, and the editor probably screwed you over with the stupid title and easily answered question at the top.

Hey Dominic @17? "The death of fine art will be curators and companies that chase away the masses who are trying to join your party." The masses love Swan Lake, dude, so blow me. If you want someone to blame for why people are perpetually uninterested in the arts outside of the Dead White Men schtick, you have no one to blame but yourselves and the rest of your cohorts in the pathetic fucking abattoir you might charitably call 'journalism' or, god help me, 'arts criticism.' You're embarrassing yourselves.

Of course, every regulation is a blow against FREEEEEEEDOOOOOMMMMMMM. That's why the market should be allowed to correct for these things, and not let the nanny-state get in the way of FREEEEEEEDOOOOOMMMMMMM.

In other news, a factory full of non-unionized workers in Texas were blown to shit because the factory owners broke what few laws there were, and the governor thought there should be even fewer. Because FREEEEEEEDOOOOOMMMMMMM.

So if the entire thing is a self-serving sham, why are you getting so worked up about it? Why is anyone? I have to wonder about the people who let themselves get so angry at what this woman does - she's trying to be famous and make money, like, literally thousands upon thousands of other people are doing. If I see a bunch of mosquitoes hovering over a pond, I don't pick out one mosquito and say, 'look at that fucker, thinking he's so cool and buzzing all over the place. Fuck him.' They're mosquitoes. What else do they do but buzz?
