I see a wounded nation in this. The last administration, or should I say misadministration, has left us deeply cynical. By the time it left, newspapers took a hit for being unquestioning lap dogs. Banks and Wall Street had failed because of sweeping unbridled greed. Right wing religious zealots have done irreparable harm to any respect religion may have had. We have a right to expect better only if we've learned something.

It is really American that we're monitoring grandpa's emails and arming maniacs to the teeth at the same time. It's called corruption. And like everything else we do in this country, the corruption is extreme.

Re: EU secularism. I think it's silly for Christians to argue that because their religion has been around for thousands of years, it is somehow worthy of privilege. When one thinks of the way it has murdered, plundered, tortured and divided, one would have to conclude, with few exceptions, it's been a long time impediment to civilization and learning.
