Er, credulous, I mean. The electorate is NOT very credible, but it is credulous.

If he can convince the (unfortunately way too credible) electorate that he's more like Poppy than W, he's got a good chance of winning against Hillary Clinton. As someone who thought the elder Bush was bad enough, I'm really depressed by that thought.
Dec 8 Cascadian commented on Seahawks Beat Eagles, Inspiring Levels of Insufferability That Can Only Be Described As "Nelly-Esque".
The Seahawks actually have a good shot at top seed in the NFC. If they win their final three games, they'll have 12 wins. The only other teams that could have 12 wins then would be Green Bay, Philadelphia, Arizona, Detroit, and Dallas. The Seahawks would win the tie-breakers against all of those teams except for the Cowboys.

Now, that depends on beating Arizona at home, which is tough. 11-5 is more realistic (and in their current form, with those other games at home, anything less than that seems highly unlikely). But they'd get past Atlanta no problem, and I doubt they'd lose in Arizona twice in one season. So the Packers really are the biggest worry, and that's only if they don't finish with 12 wins and the top seed, which would mean two home games on the way to the Super Bowl.

19 points? It would have been 26 if Russell Wilson hadn't put down his knee on the last play. It was the safe non-asshole move but for insufferability's sake I was hoping they just powered it in for the TD.
Nov 14 Cascadian commented on What Are the Parallels Between Birth Control and PrEP?.
The difference is that pregnancy did not in living memory kill hundreds of thousands of people in the prime of their lives in this country.

That HIV is no longer a death sentence does not change that it was. And while another future AIDS may be unlikely, some people will continue to exercise precautions that kept them alive until now. I think it's reasonable for some people to make a different risk assessment, but I don't think those that are more cautious should be attacked for that view unless they are calling people Truvada whores or otherwise being assholes.

It would be nice if a woman could express an opinion without being called a stupid bitch. But at least the kneejerk misogynists make themselves easy to identify so that the rest of us can ignore their blatherings.
Nov 3 Cascadian commented on The Seattle Seahawks Are a Quantum Football Team.
It's to early to say if they really suck or it's just the injuries. But this team looked really good against both Green Bay and Denver, so I think the potential's in place to make a run, maybe even win the division. They're in second place, and as bad as they've been at times, they're half a game up on the Niners. They're likely to split with SF and finish second in the division. They're likely to beat the Rams at home. And taking Arizona at home, even as good at Arizon is, is hardly impossible. So the difference between 8-8 and 11-5 is how they do in non-division play. And if they get enough people healthy, they just have to beat Arizona twice and keep pace with both Arizona and SF over the rest of the schedule to win the division.
Sep 3 Cascadian commented on Those Leaked Celebrity Nudes: Have You Looked?.
Put me in the didn't look, didn't care to camp, and I'm a straight man. I don't know who any of these people are, I can find pictures of random naked women on the Internet at any time if I want to see a naked woman who isn't my wife, and so there's no particular curiosity involved.

Even if these were people I cared about and I thought they were hot, I probably wouldn't bother. But I'm not particularly interested in celebrities as sex objects and never have been. And the privacy issue is real.
Aug 29 Cascadian commented on Please Stop Fighting Over Reclining Seats on Airplanes.
@5, no. Paul is right. Don't recline. The damn things should be locked in the upright position for any daytime flight. It is clearly unjust for one person to decide to recline and thus make the decision for every person behind them in their section that they must also recline or else choose to be squished. You don't own every space behind you, just your own. Which means no reclining unless the person immediately behind you consents.

Unlike Paul, though, I think the blame is not just the airlines. It belongs to people who think their comfort is more important than the comfort of multiple other people. It's rude and inconsiderate.
Aug 25 Cascadian commented on Hillary Clinton Ignores Questions About Ferguson.
Clinton would not blunder like W, though. It's a low bar but foreign policy is unfortunately a lost cause. The differences on domestic policy are stark. Clinton is about where any center-right party would be in most developed countries, and the Republicans are insane. There is no progressive or even truly left-of-center domestic option. There's no way to build one in the time we have before 2016, and our country's electorate probably will never support one (even countries with a strong left-wing political culture like France are in the grips of center-right policies these days).
