Spoiled Rotten: Star Trek Into Darkness.
Honestly - my daughters and I had a great time, and - as a feminist father - I didn't see the lack of agency for the female characters you describe. Uhura saves the day with the Klingons, and Marcus is smart as hell. It wasn't like Sulu or Chekov had much more to do.
As to the plot, I liked the reflection of ST2:WoK and accepted the different look to Khan as parallel universe stuff, blank slate to bring in a great actor. And we can never have enough reminders of the dangers of powerful men who feel the means justify the ends in manufacturing reasons for a "preventative" war (Tonkin, WMD). Leathery old robocop was great as the true villain in the piece.
Great scenes in space in the opener, the human shot thru the debris field, and the warp speed fight - but it did gravitate back to earth. Clearly they are setting up the next few for the five year mission, to explore...
Bottom line - relax, don the 3D glasses, and enjoy the ride....

Late-Night May Day Wrap-Up.
@8 - you have the most ironic screen name. Everything you post is so lock step with the Bush/Cheney mindset. You should indeed wash your brain, or get a life. Hey - Rush'll be on soon. Better not miss it.

How Safeco Field Can Improve Attendance.
@26 - you do realize that The Stranger typically ignores all sports not hockey and soccer, the only section of a traditional newspaper missing here? And you do realize Safeco is a gem, and not at all the problem, and likely to last for decades? And that you will still spew condescension, because, SPORTS!
Get over yourself, you predictable hipster poseur. It's just a game.

Thursday Morning News: What a Mess.
Jen - why are you linking to the Seattle Times Elwha story behind a pay wall? I thought the Stranger's position was that their news is not worth paying for. I certainly haven't, and thus couldn't read the article you linked to. Have you?

The Investigation Into the Boston Bombings.
CNN is nutso? Again - around the bend you are. And why is it now crazy to speculate as to who, why? Of course that is what we want to know at this point. Thats what we do here. Or are you concerned the speculation will turn towards those fomenting fear about the gov't who is coming to take our guns away? The Greenwald piece is spot on, btw. Thanks 21.

Do You Want a Free (Mean) Dog?.
A sad story turned awesome, by Ben and most of the SLOG commentariat! ( anonymous trolls excepted). Three adoption offers and the red carpet treatment from SAS? Y'all are good people.
Hope it turns out well for Woofus. We adopted our old black lab four years ago after a similar abandonment and he was really anxious and reactive. Now he is an amazing part of the family (yes, troll) and much more trusting. Walking him is often the best part of my day and he just generally makes life better. Hope Woofus gets that chance too... Keep us posted.
