@7 Violence committed for religious reasons, regardless of who is doing it and why, is even dumber than all the other dumb reasons for committing violence. No religion is any better than any other in this regard. If God made you hurt someone or ostracize someone or dehumanize someone or take away their basic rights then that's not God. That's the devil. Own it. That's who you're worshiping.
Nov 23 smade commented on Hillary Clinton Now Leading Donald Trump By More Than Two Million Votes.
He's not saying he could have won California, he's saying he could have won more voters there per rally or per dollar spent, but that it was pointless to go there because the state was lost. And he's right. Don't get caught up in the magical thinking that it's all about the way the electoral process is structured. Maybe it matters, but it might not and Democrats need to accept the fact that we need to work harder and smarter to convince voters that we really are the better choice. We are the better choice but there's a whole lot of bullshit we have to fight through to make our case effectively. God knows how many more votes he could have cadged off fools in places like Orange County.

Fellow Clinton voters, we lost. What we did this time didn't work, it's time to try something different. Bernie supporters, you lost. What you did this time didn't work, it's time to try something different. Socialists, you lost. What you did this time didn't work, it's time to try something different. Misanthropists, you won. You hate humanity, by definition, so you think we got no less than what we deserve. But that's no reason to listen to what you have to say, or even to acknowledge your existence. A misanthropist is nothing more than a racist who hates white people just as much as they hate people of every other color. Even Trump is better than that.

Audacity, ideology, and misanthropy are no substitute for smarts. That much, at least, is evident. It's hard to think clearly when one is so busy posing, it would seem.

History provides us with a perfectly good example of libertarian unregulated market economics. It's called Victorian England and if ever there was a golden age of humanity, that was it. I can't understand why we all didn't adopt that model in perpetuity. If a man can't be free to work 6 days, 12 hours a day in a coal mine for a crust of adulterated bread and a little rancid bacon fat, then we all ought to just pack it in, I say.

@1 Hear, hear! Like you, I'm all for ensuring teachers get more than just a slap on the wrist and a few days off with pay for shooting unarmed students. I don't think you'll find much opposition to that, but good for you for exposing such an important issue to the light of day. Any contract the city has with the Teachers' Union that allows such behavior to go unpunished should be torn up just as quickly as the one they have with the Police Union.

I don't get the point of this post. Clinton voted for war, Sanders is in bed with the NRA, Stein is in bed with the anti-vaxxers. All of these positions contribute to shamefully large numbers of needless deaths. They're all politicians. That means they're going to be disappointingly expedient from time to time and lie about what they believe in order to maximize their popularity. To expect anything different is to expect generosity from a bank or open-minded tolerance from a fundamentalist. If your candidate is without sin, then by all means, throw the first stone. But your candidate isn't. So save your rocks for targets that truly deserve them.

@59 Like Sanders, you're not a Democrat. You're a Democratic Socialist who was hoping that the Democratic Party would come find you. They didn't. Per Ballotpedia, Kaine is well within the Warren range of liberalism, though not as far left as Sanders, and choosing Kaine a very smart move for the pragmatists. Doesn't make the idealists happy, but it's not the idealist's role or goal to win elections. Idealists, like you, are there to pull the party toward the ideal. As an idealist, you'll never be happy until the party's politics are a perfect match for yours, which will never happen. We pragmatists, who share your views but not your zealotry, are just fine with Kaine. I'm sorry we won't get your vote, but we'll win without it and we, who do not demand ideological purity, will make your world a better, though imperfect, place despite your fanaticism.

Expecting employers to pay even a nickel more than they absolutely have to is a pipe dream and they will find any excuse not to, including gender. If employers gave a rat's ass about taking care of the people whose labor provides them a living, we wouldn't need unions and labor regulations (fuck you, Paul Ryan) and equal pay legislation, but they don't and we do. Keep the pressure on the fuckers until there is justice.
