Committee Passes Public Campaign Finance Measure While Willfully Ignoring Problem of Districts.
Meh.
Why insist on having them fix it for district-based elections when we don't currently have it? I know it is a popular idea among the Slog crowd, but the city has repeated voted down district-based elections before. So unless something changes, in all likelihood it will be voted down again this fall.
It would be a waste of time for the council to figure out a fix for a problem that does not exist, and probably won't. If the districting ballot measure passes, they'll have a year or more to come up with a fix. This is not something to lose sleep over.

Edward Snowden Did a Live Q&A This Morning.
Zing!
I have to say I have a lot more respect for Snowden than I do for Bradley Manning. Snowden seems to have put a lot more thought into what he is doing, and is releasing information about a program he believes violates our constitution without giving away thousands of state secrets. He's specific and selective about his whistleblowing. Whereas Manning just indiscriminately dumped all kinds of shit to Wikileaks without any filter.

Man of Steel: Superman Gets in a Very Long Fight.
@2, yes. You are the only person to like Superman returns.
I watched and wanted to like it. But... it was boring. I barely remember a thing about it now. I think its biggest mistake was trying to play too much homage to Christopher Reeve, which made it seem like a hollow imitation of the real thing.
I haven't seen this yet, obvs, but at least it looks like it is a complete reinterpretation, dumping any pretense of the Reeve series, and with a new star that has enough charisma and presence to make the character his own.

SLLOTD: Blessed be the Ties that Bind.
@6, Hah!
Well, no, I didn't mean exactly like Car Talk in every detail. I'm assuming that a vast majority of these letters were sent to Dan via email in the last 10 years. (I'm old enough to remember the early years where they were actually letters sent by postal mail.) So he could send a followup back to the same email address. Some of them would languish in no-longer-used email boxes, of course, but I imagine he'd get a response from some of them. Could be entertaining and illuminating.

God, was this really 8 years ago already? Fuck, where did the time go? I wonder if Monk is still doing lessons and selling hemp rope?
I agree these reruns would be a lot more fun if we had an update. I know Dan isn't a fan of "Car Talk" on NPR, but those guys do a fun thing. They periodically go into their archives, find a past caller, and call them up for an update. Called "stump the chump". They find out if (a) the caller took their advice or not, and (b) if the advice worked. Dan should try something like this.
