commented on The Man Who May Become the First Black Person to Win a Nobel in the Sciences
Typically a scientist has no input into whether their discoveries are patented or not. All of a scientist's work is owned by whatever research institution they work for, and they're the ones who get the patents. Individual scientists get no particular benefit from being on a patent, unless the company has a bonus per patent system. Even then, the bonus is usually something like $1000 - $3000, while the patent might be worth millions and millions.
commented on Kshama Sawant's Brash Style Catapulted Her to Victory
Sawant is the left wing equivalent of a tea partier. She says things that excite the liberal base, she won't compromise, is up against "establishment" democrats. Maybe if she works really hard she can find a way to cause a Seattle city government shutdown over her principals.

Suicide Pact Contract
Look, Boeing is going to pull out of here sooner or later no matter what anyone does. They might as well just get it over with and stop with all the dicking around. Maybe we can get Airbus to buy their factories here.
