@24:

"This is not paranoid rhetoric".

Oh, but that's precisely what it is - and it's a doozy, even for you.

Jeebuz @13, you had to reach back - what? - five or six years for that one?
3:42 PM COMTE commented on Russell Brand Fillets Morning Joe Newscasters: Who's the Bigger Dick Here?.
The best part was near the end when he briefly went off on a spot-on impersonation of a typical morning show talking head, and their sincerely amazed response to his off-the-cuff ad-lib. They actually seemed impressed by his facility, and didn't for a moment comprehend the fact that he was mocking them for being the talent-deficient, vacuous, wastes of hair-product he was showing them up to be.

@28:

If this is your idea of a "military police state", I suggest you stay far, far away from actual totalitarian states such as Myanmar, Chad, Saudi Arabia or Uzbekistan for example, otherwise you might have to confront the notion of what a REAL police state looks like.

@20:

If those are "fluff sectors", we'll take them!

I mean, seriously, you call education and health care "fluff", but lump non-manufacturing sectors like finance and IT in with "the sectors that actually make stuff"? I think you're concept of "stuff" is a little skewed there, fella.

Seriously, do you even have a clue as to how much money the Leisure & Hospitality Industry alone generates for this region? Education & Health Services are "fluff"? Health Care is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the national economy and Seattle is well-positioned to be a world leader in biotech & cancer research, so those numbers are hardly the soft, squishy inconsequential indicators you seem to think they are.

And increase in public sector jobs just points to a further overall improvement in our local economy, as demand for those services increase with a growing population base, while simultaneously, business and property tax valuation increases have made it possible to budget for them without tapping into new sources of revenue; all indicative of a healthy, growing, prosperous economy.

@15:

Lots of conditions defined by medical experts as "diseases" don't require the presence of microbes, bacteria, viruses or any living organisms: Alzheimer's/Dementia, Autism, most cardio-vascular diseases, Emphysema - in fact, just about any non-infectious, non-communicable disease you can name.

Maybe if you'd stayed awake during senior year biology you would have remembered that, but hey, thanks for playing. We'll send you the home version of "Amateur Medical Diagnosis For Dummies".

Meh, so the USACE believes it doesn't have the scope to examine the overall environmental impacts; I see nothing in that statement that precludes any other body or agency - federal, state, or municipal - from doing so in their stead. Why are people making it sound like this is now a done deal?

Car2Go is really good for that.

Otherwise, Kemper Freeman can kiss my shiny, white ass...
Jun 17 COMTE commented on Cap Hill Is Becoming a Little Like What?.
Labyrinthine shopping malls aside, CapHill is "lil'" - only in the sense of geographic area. There's 100X more goings-on crammed into the few blocks of Pike-Pine alone than in the entire CITY of Bellevue.
Jun 17 COMTE commented on Egyptian Theatre to Close at the End of This Month.
19:

My guess would be that it's unlikely McMenamins would take over the Egyptian, for several reasons. First, most of their cinemas are in buildings with other multi-use functions (e.g. Kennedy School & Edgefield), while the Bagdad required pretty extensive build-outs to to the adjoining retail space, which The Egyptian doesn't really have. Also, Mike & Brian don't generally lease these types of buildings; they buy them outright, if at all possible in order to avoid situations like the untimely closing of Dad Watson's in Fremont. So, unless SCCC wants to sell, I doubt they'll want to invest the considerable amount needed to reconfigure the space under any sort of lease agreement, regardless of how long-term. Also, the fact that there's already another McMenamins (Six Arms) in very close proximity is somewhat problematic, as they generally tend to space their locations out, so that there's not a lot of overlap in terms of attracting neighborhood clientele.

Plus, as you say, with the opening of Anderson School imminent, they simply may not be in a position to invest in another fairly large-scale project in this area until that one is up, running and generating positive income.
