Yeah, it's a copy of that.

@23 - Ironic, given the vast number of Twin Peaks-influenced diners and bars across the country and especially in Seattle, such as Linda's and Lost Lake, that the Original Twin Peaks Diner is so far off the mark. Seems like it should be the flagship of northwest blue-collar noir!

@14 Somebody's got to do this. Just from a tourism standpoint Twede's is flushing a ton of money down the toilet by driving so many tourists away, who would flock if the atmosphere had any whiff of Twin Peaks to it.

Jessika Kenney and Eyvind Kang have the 2 most accomplished resumes in music internationally right now. @10 Ben is an amazing and talented asset to Seattle's music scene, but don't oversell, this is a great batch (with the possible exception of Katie Kate, who will be much more interesting in 5-10 years' time)
Apr 29 DavidG commented on Big Government Is Hurting Under Obama.
It's not Obama's government, stop blaming him. It's the GOP's Congress that's the insurmountable obstacle. How exactly is he supposed to get them to support any of his agenda at all?
Apr 18 DavidG commented on Watch the aPodment Hearing!.
Seattle homeowners need a good strong dose of humility. Apodments should be allowed anywhere and everywhere. Street parking and scenic views aren't a god-given right, and should be traded at any opportunity for more density. Transit should then follow. This is how cities grow up, and we should just tune out the churlish whining of entitled homeowners. The city is for people.

Yep, more proof the only things conservatives think is funny are things they think will piss off liberals.

2 more things to add to the secondhand smoke analogy:

Measurements of cotinine have shown how exposure to secondhand smoke has steadily decreased in the United States over time.3,7
During 1988–1991, approximately 87.9% of nonsmokers had measurable levels of cotinine.
During 1999–2000, approximately 52.5% of nonsmokers had measurable levels of cotinine.
During 2007–2008, approximately 40.1% of nonsmokers had measurable levels of cotinine.
The decrease in exposure to secondhand smoke over the last 20 years is due to the growing number of laws that ban smoking in workplaces and public places, the increase in the number of households with smoke-free home rules, and the decreases in adult and youth smoking rates.8,9

AND: The deep pockets of the tobacco lobby.

Even if we haven't banned smoking (personally, I feel like smoking around children is abuse), we HAVE made a TON of progress by allowing the government to regulate cigarettes. Don't know if you remember, but tobacco has eaten up a lot of public discussion over the last 20-30 years. Yet it's nearly impossible to implement any regulations at all about guns. Why do you think that is?

Jan 30 DavidG commented on The Rent Hike.
What @46 said. It's bad policy to impose rent control, because then nobody could ever move into the neighborhood. But it's immoral to slam renters with a 50% increase in 1 year. The best compromise I think would involve capping the annual rent increase to, say, 10% a year. That way the market could keep up with demand but people wouldn't get defacto evicted because their building was sold.

Don't even diss on Portishead. Have you heard Third, their last album after a 10 year hiatus? Next leve shit.
