I think I'm the only person in the world who finds Wes Anderson to be a racist, classist hack. His films are beautiful to look at, for sure, but once you scratch the surface, they're about white people wringing their hands about personal fulfillment, while glorifying times/places when brown people are second-class citizens, exotic "props" in these stories. I couldn't get through The Darjeeling Limited because the racism was so profound.

Also, if she's dating dudes in their early 20's, most of them haven't yet been broken of the expectation (that comes, in particular, from porn) that ladies are things to stick your dick in. So, if she's finding that they're assholes, she's probably right. They're not all unredeeming assholes, and many will improve as they get real experience with real women.

I think her curiosity and frankness is really touching, and I think she's got a good head on her shoulders. The next few years might have its ups and downs, but I think she'll do alright.

Oh, there are so, so many great things at the DIA. I went there a couple years ago, and I took TWO DAYS to check out the whole collection. It is amazing.

Without even looking it up, yes. Short shrift is when your priest hurries you through your confession because he has better things to do than listen to you about your sinning ways. To shrive is the middle English word for confessing your sins; to be shriven was to have the sins absolved through the sacrament of confession. Shrift, then, is the past participle for having confessed your sins.

Yes! More coverage of classical music, please! This is great. Would love to see more, including coverage of the local choral music scene.

They migrate out there from all over the city every night at dusk. It's a pretty cool thing to watch -- you can follow them down Lake City Way through Kenmore to Bothell.

Or, as the sign to Bothell sometimes says, "Welcome to Hell, for a day or for a lifetime."

Also, when I went to the emergency room, the doc told me that the flu shot isn't protecting everyone this year. SO, if you get the shot, you might still get sick, but it's a whole lot less likely that you will.

I got the flu over the Christmas holiday. I've never been so sick in my life. I spent seven days in bed (literally). I had a temp of 103, and had to go to the emergency room for a chest x-ray. I tested positive for influenza A, and am STILL coughing two weeks later, even though I took the full course of tamilflu.

I'm pretty healthy and fit, but if someone with a compromised immune system caught this bug, it could definitely kill them. Getting the flu shot isn't just about protecting YOU from getting sick, but about improving the herd immunity, too. When you have a flu shot, you make it less likely that your colleagues/family/strangers will get sick.

Honestly, sounds like the flu. Have you been running a fever? I was once so sick with the flu in college that I couldn't walk down the four flights of stairs to my dining hall. Friends had to bring food to me for almost a week. But yes, it started with weakness and pain in the skin.
