Matthew will kill you for calling it the "Broadway Grill"...

I don't think Dom was ripping on the CURRENT state of the Grill...the food and service WERE terrible for much of the 2000's and my brother DID get food poisoning there...in 2001. It's doubly sad that the Grill is leaving because it WAS getting better...the food and service, plus the vibe was different. It's much more of a mixed crowd and not so snotty gay like it was back in the day.

I largely agree with you, but you could hardly call Sharon Needles a "glamour queen". She's a Goth/Comedy queen and she broke the bland, "looks are more important than talent" norm of the first three seasons. (And, Raja was amazing and original, but her major talent is fashion, not performance.)

Most of the people in these photos are under the age of 40 (or, 30 for that matter) so it's highly unlikely they are Slog readers...

So. Damn. Depressing.

One of the VERY few, old school, non-gentrified/yuppified bar diners left on Capitol Hill.

And, ultimately, a new upscale watering hole will replace it with expensive food and communal tables.

Acoustically, the Paramount is meh.

It's a cute show but it's not the best musical in the history of musical theater. (Duh...Stephen Sondheim wasn't involved...) The book is basically a half an hour South Park episode stretched out to 2 and a half hours. (The "Mormon" episode of "South Park" is actually much funnier...) And, the music is largely generic. (The South Park movie has much better songs.) And, there's the whole "yeah, it's a tiny bit racist" thing. (Africans are really naive and clueless about any world culture including cell phones or Star Wars)

Other than that, it's a fun show.

Can we open a gay bar next door to Mars Hill to preach the Glory of the Bung to those heathens who dare not mention its name?

Hmmm....the only "no show" in June was Alaska...because she got booked on "Drag Race". Jinkx was announced as well but her name was removed from the guest list VERY early on. And, drag queens DON'T generally do long sets...the majority of drag shows consist of a host and 4 or 5 performers who do 2 numbers tops. At 5 minutes a number, it works out to about 10 minutes. That's pretty much how it works at R Place, too...
