Scientology Exposed.
Another great book is Inside Scientology by Janet Reitman, which is only about a year or so old. Haven't read Wright's book yet, but that book has a great journalistic take on the church as well. And Kate Bornstein's A Queer and Pleasant Danger is wonderfully sad and inspiring at the same time.

Gunman Opens Fire Inside the Twilight Exit.
The Twilight has been my favorite Seattle bar for over 12 years (through two different moves). As such, the folks there feel like part of my community of friends. Wishing the two injured folks--esp. the door person who was injured, who I'm assuming I must have known--nothing but speedy recovery and comfort in this time of confusion and hurt.
Trollers, please just stop.

When's the General Strike?.
Add to that the challenges in reaching some sort of consensus around goals of such an action, what accomplishing those goals might look like and how to keep folks unified behind those goals, and you've got a whole other level of potential clusterfuckery.
But if folks were willing to take on such challenges, I think an action like this could be something.

When's the General Strike?.
A general strike would have to be longer than a day to have any impact. These days, politicians and big business can easily deal with one day of mass protest (take for example, the big one-day protests leading to the Iraq War). But if it was sustained, the way such things sometimes are in Europe and other places in the world, it might actually have an impact.

P.S. Sorry for what happened to you, Cienna.
