Today Is the Day to "Give Big".
@8 - there is no way to state what the stretch will be for each organization, because it is determined by the day-of giving (I did notice that this year there is an option for casual donors who can't decide on an organization to give to the stretch pool - not sure if it's new but I don't recall that last year).
There is definitely a conundrum for NPOs around donor cultivation and whether longtime donors will use this as an addition to annual giving, or instead, but even with some of the sticky specifics I don't see any way that GiveBIG can "derail" long term relationships with donors.
I do think GiveBIG has a far more substantial positive impact on smaller-budget NPOs than large ones, though.

"Bus service shouldn't be optional—it should be a right.".
As long as I've lived here, Seattle has been yammering about its ambition to be a world class city. You know what world class cities have? Extensive public transportation networks.
Constantly having our bus system under attack, and rolling back service on routes that are heavily used or reach the most remote areas (sometimes both) is exasperating. We're never going to shift away from a disproportionately car-centric culture if our public transit options outside of a very few high profile routes (LINK, SLUT) are continuously being eroded. bah.

Which Fox TV Series Looks Worse?.
All I need to see is the name Seth MacFarlane to know that Dads is the worse show. Dads will be worse than Whitney, which was hideously, mind-numbingly awful and not-funny.

SL Letter of the Day: I'm Out.
@10 bingo. letter writer isn't in the position to be all defensive-hurt about this.
He was (allegedly) going for an outrageous overreaction in the name of humor. His joke fell flat. He couldn't come up with a witty comeback in the moment, so to make up for it, he's now got this whole analysis about the role of the word cunt in society to defend himself.
I suspect this letter is just a trial run so he'll be more prepared next time he tries to be so outRAGEously ascerbic at a party, so he can use a word people don't like AND school his lady classmates on what is and isn't offensive to them.
Are we sure this guy is in his late 20s? This is all very college freshman.

Late-Night May Day Wrap-Up.
yes, it would have been awesome if the anarchist demonstration had done some old-school actions of bringing positivity into the world. But that has nothing whatsoever to do with what the Seattle version of the anarchist movement is about, so there's no way it was going to happen. No point in excusing brats who get the fight they were looking for.
