Yes, I read about that sad story myself as well a couple of weeks ago. I still stand by my point. Secular law is so vastly lenient compared to religious law, that most would not agree to be legally bound to the laws of their religion.

I'd like to see us Americans settle the religious/secular marriage issues we have in this country something similar to the way they have settled it in India. Where the Indian government recognizes the marriage laws of the different religions and hold couples legal bound by the religious laws of the Marriage Act under which they got married.
If a Catholic couple got married under the Catholic Marriage Act, our government would recognized that and hold the couple legally bound to Catholic Marriage laws and tradition. The following would hold suit for Muslim, Baptist, Atheist and so on.

As an non-believer I'd like to see this done just to see how many people wouldn't want to be legally bound to the laws of their own religions. Because I doubt many would.
