A Quality Live Van Halen Jam.
@2 How do you mean? Argo takes place between the capture of the embassy on November 4, 1979 and the escape of the Canadian Six on January 28, 1980.
VHII was released March 2, 1979, and "Dance the Night Away" hit the Billboard charts that summer, so it would have still been on the radio, or at least in people's cassette decks, that winter.
I noted this while watching the movie: at that point in the plot, I kind of expected "Hotel California" to pop up (while already old by 1979 and tired today it would perfectly capture the nature of a late 70s Hollywood Party; Bob Seger's "Hollywood Nights", while chronologically appropriate, would be too obvious). But when I noted this after the movie, my friend from the time (we were 14 in '79) insisted the VH track was perfectly appropriate as she remembered both that and Journey's "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" as two of the songs that broke through all the Disco on the radio that year. The real breakthrough, of course, was "Heart of Glass" but we didn't really catch onto that until 1980 and it thus served (and still does) as the gateway to that decade.

More Bad News for a Great Literary Magazine.
I used to buy it regularly at Bailey/Coy. When that store vanished, so did my buying habit. I guess I should have subscribed, but I liked giving a local bookstore my business and I was in the habit of going in there several times a month anyway so it was easy to pick it up.
But at this point... is Granta on Kindle?

The Friday Morning News.
N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) is not an insecticide. It's an insect repellant. You probably wanted to refer to DDT; but given that you apparently think mollusks are insects, who knows what you were thinking.

The Wednesday Morning News.
You realize there are only 29 Major League Ballparks in the nation (and one in Canada). So being the 14th most expensive ballpark Is the same as being the 15th or 16th least expensive -- in other words, pretty close to exactly average. Which is not to say ballpark prices are reasonable, but in that context there's nothing remarkable whatsoever about Safeco's prices. Which is pretty much the opposite of "news" no matter how you choose to write the headline.

True Crime: "Gun Located in Suspect Vagina".
"Takes some wind out of the GUN = PENIS sails..." -- I don't see how. Perhaps she wishes she had one, whether attached to herself or her guy of choice; either way, it's substituting for one literally and exactly. Certainly better than it ever does for the guys for whom this transference is so symbolically important.

Public Opinion Changes.
The situations aren't exactly comparable, though: do you think most people will come to view the lack of a state income tax as a simple act of predjudice ?
