@1 Insurance and gambling are exact opposites. One decreases your chances of financial ruin and the other increases it. The risk of lightning strikes and car accidents is never going away, but you never have to even step into a casino, although I'm sure Steve Wynn would't mind a law mandating it.

@6 I agree that his celibacy since adolescence seemed unlikely. Keep in mind it's a work of art and try not to draw too many generalizing conclusions about reality based on it. Some interesting film reviews/interviews with the screenwriters:

The ending was dated and unbelievable. *SPOILER* The guy has never had sex since he was a child. He's very socially isolated, but he walks around with a smartphone in his pocket? Not very representative of today. It felt like a sad, lonely gay man movie from 40 years ago.

The rest of the movie was good, and Janelle Monae was great in this and in Hidden Figures.

The FBI? They helped get Trump to where he is.

WTF, Washington Democrats? First your undemocratic caucus and now voting for a *Republican*. Y'all need to get your ish together.

Golob is wrong about the politics. He says Democrats had control of the government and they failed to pass the public option because of an intra-party fight, but Republicans and Independent Senator Lieberman promised to filibuster it, and the Democrats only had 58 Senators plus Sanders. Without a single Republican's or Lieberman's support, there was no way to get 60 votes to break the Republican-and-Lieberman filibuster, even if the Democrats had rounded up every single red-state Democratic Senator.

Want to prevent more President Trumps? The Stranger and the media will have to do a better job of reporting the facts.

@6 The Republicans want to replace Medicare with private insurance. They just re-elected Ryan Speaker of the House. That's his plan.

@40 Here's your link of Donald Trump being racist:

I have a Mexican judge. He’s of Mexican heritage. He should have recused himself, not only for that, for other things.

Here's a video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEad6xYf…

Here's Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan calling those comments racist:

“I disavow these comments,” Ryan said. “Claiming a person can’t do the job because of their race is sort of like the textbook definition of a racist comment. I think that should be absolutely disavowed. It’s absolutely unacceptable.”

Republican Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell also criticized Trump:

"In addition to that, it’s time to quit attacking various people you competed with or various minority groups in the country and get on message," McConnell said.

@25

“He doesn’t like blacks. He doesn’t like Hispanics. He doesn’t like disabled people,” said Jennifer Shanklin-Hawkins, who, like roughly half the Carrier factory workers, is African-American. “He’s not presidential material. But my husband and I weren’t mad or upset when he won. I know blacks who voted for him, and I want to give him a chance.”

@22 They're not all racists, but many are suckers who've been conned by Trump, and they threw out of government the wrong party. We should be raising the minimum wage, funding education for the decent-paying jobs of tomorrow, and stopping billionaires like Trump from paying $0 in federal income taxes, but that's the last thing the all-Republican government we'll have for the next two years will do.
