Tea Party people could say the same thing about racists/racist signs at their rallies. "A few rubes came out of the woodwork and that's all people are going to talk, but generally it was a peaceful protest for a return to the constitution." Sorry. The protest is only as good as its worst members. MLK knew this.

This is one of my favorite books, it's amazing in all ways. I hope they don't blow it. Pitt is a great choice for Jack Black (the author of the memoir).

This is a fun column. I love this album, but honestly it does take like 15 listens to crack. Not only were they not on drugs in a basement, but Beefheart instituted a kind of fluxus, dictatory thing--making the band practice for 12 hours at a time and then leaving the studio etc. The musicianship is extraordinary if you really listen, super super tech, not unlike Coltrane's Ascension. But Safe as Milk and Shiny Beast are the banging, crowd pleasing beefheart albums that I listen to way more.

I'm a huge Daisey fan, I've seen five of his shows, but his reaction to this is bad, bad, bad. He's going into Martyrdom mode. He should've have said, look this made me famous and acclaimed and that was exhilirating and I didn't put the breaks on when I should. I understand how this could happen to someone, I do. People exaggerate in story-telling. But it's on him.

Accelerator is THE Royal Trux album. One of the most underrated albums of the 90s. The production is so weird and brilliant and druggy. And yes Stevie is amazing.

I went to Intoxica records when I was in London last month. Laughably absurdly overpriced. U.K. edition of traffic albums for 50-75 pounds. Seriously.

Feb 28, 2012 Hosono commented on The Movie Obama Wants to See, Made by the First African American Director Ever to Win an Oscar for a Full-Length Film (and He's From Seattle).

I think it's really funny to write about the uneasiness of a scene that's heavy with unfairness in a documentary that's basically the Shakespeare in Love of the its genre. If Harvey Weinstein hadn't bought the movie, it never would have been nominated, let alone won. That's true for a lot of movies, and is how the business works, but it's especially egregious in a year when a movie that's about as good as an ESPN 30 for 30 doc somehow takes the spot of Bill Cunningham's New York and two (!) Herzog documentaries.

You mean like how Harvey Weinstein basically bought Undefeated an Oscar? You seriously think it deserved best doc over Paradise Lost 3, a movie that literally saved the lives of three people?
