10-Year-Old Girl Accidentally Shot Dead by 14-Year-Old Boy.
@28 I am, despite my sarcastic front, pretty dang serious.
It was noted many months ago that what really needs to change are peoples' attitudes. In exactly the same way MADD changed attitudes about drinking and driving. We no longer tolerate loveable drunks having a few too many and weaving home. People are aware that drinking and driving do not mix well and people are keenly aware that there is no such thing as a responsible drunk.
Drinking lowers inhibitions and reduces one's ability to act responsibly.
If you were to go back in time a generation I bet you would find people saying that stricter DUI laws were not a solution.
But see now where the pro-gun folks are in that spot now? If, in a generation we can effect changes in attitudes such that beliwving a gun is a necessity is on par with believing 'one for the road' is not okay we will have made progress.
Change attitudes and change laws.
If fewer people felt the need to keep guns around then fewer people prone ro road-rage or other types of anger-mismanagement scenarios would have a weapon handy to lash out with.
There will always be gun owners, just like there are still drinks, drinkers, and bars. But maybe when having a handgun is regarded with a s imilar level of disdain as driving drunk we will reduce the needless deaths.

Makes me realize that "My guns are always secured and locked up." is the gun-nut version of the alcoholic's plea that "I can handle my liquor."
It's human nature to want to believe one is better at something than the majority of the population. And whether it's an alcoholic on a bender driving at 3x the legal limit or a gun nut having an anger-management episode the outcome occasionally has tragic results.
Because for a gun nut, "my guns are always locked up" just is not true. They unlock them, they use them, they shoot them, they handle them, loaded or unloaded. Else why have them?
Next time you hear a gun nut say "My guns are always secured" read it as "But I can handle my liquor."

Yet Another Example of Oppressive Government Regulations Destroying Free Enterprise.
@23 wow, almost none of what you said makes any sense. Please tell us you do not ever vote for any election more important than County Dogcatcher.
"You think" there was a vast conspiracy during Prohibition to poison US citizens? You think?
Then you go on to blue-sky a bunch of bullshit about the question of gov't regulations.
Please stick to listening to the midnight radio UFO conspiracy show, and don't ever comment on stuff the adults are discussing ever again, thanks.
